Hey guys, so I just got my car back after about a 2 months, the car's been sitting in the garage and I haven touched it after putting in a CAI, it is a self made CAI but the MAF and the other sensors all work correctly.
So heres the problem:
When in WOT, the car revs up to 3000 but there is a sudden loss of power between 3000 to 5000 then another power loss at 5000, you can feel the power loss as it literally feels like someone pressing the brakes. However, if at 3000 to 5000 you let go of the accelerator half way the car feels much more powerful but it still gets stuck at 5000. It is as if the engine is restricted to 5000 rpms.
I have already reset the car twice by disconnecting the negative terminal, the car also idles real rough, stalled itself on first start up too...
Any ideas?

Does the MAF sensor have to be right after the filter? Because if I disconnect the pipe right after the sensor everything's fine..

Did you run it after fitting your HM CAI 2 months ago? If so did it run ok then or you fitted it and never ran it?
Is the CEL on?
Did you put the MAF around the wrong way or bend a pin in it?
How close to your filter is the MAF as turbulance will cause an erratic idle?

So you disconnect the pipe between the filer and the MAF (ie: the air is still running though the MAF)?Does the MAF sensor have to be right after the filter? Because if I disconnect the pipe right after the sensor everything's fine..

I did run it after the install and everything was perfect, the CEL light did come on, when I started the car yesterday, after a reset, the CEL went off but now theres the power problem..
Yeah I disconnected it so air was basically gettin sucked in via the MAF and everything was fine like that, the sensor is right after a 45 degree bend though

okay after reading up on miata.net I think the problem might've been caused by the sensor being right after a bend in the intake structure. So now I have relocated it and the battery is currently off and I will take it out for a test drive soon.

Problem all sorted, the MAF was behind a bend and it was causing turbulence or something in the pipes.
