Jackson Racing CAI Bonnet (Hood) Relocation

Postby Skyntara » Fri Mar 30, 2012 5:44 pm

Hi Guys, just got a JR CAI from Moss in the US - pretty good price and fast shipping.

Seems I have to move my bonnet support. Unfortunately one of the points is on the Firewall near the brake master cylinder, which of course isn't there in RHD cars.

I've just kind of wedged it for now, but wondering what everyone did. Kind of mad that I didn't know, I would have just ordered some gas struts from Moss at the same time if I knew.

I ordered some gas struts from Rspeed.

Any solutions in the middle?

Using my existing hardware?

Do you mean the rod that holds the bonnet up?
If so, it shouldn't be connected to the firewall.
Can you make bends on the rod to go around the intrusion?

Actually, when following the JR Instructions, that's exactly where it should go.

It works fine where it is, I just don't have anything to attach it to when it's down.

I think I'll just get some gas struts, they're pretty cheap.

Hey I am thinking of buying a Jackson CAI as well... how would you rate performance improvements since you installed. (If any)

Well I've dríven about 20km, half of them with a door in the passenger seat threatening to kill me.

Definitely sounds AWESOME!

Pulls a little harder - loves that cold air at night.

Little more midrange, squealing tyres around corners with the same throttle that would have had me on the edge of traction before.

Also, looks nice and tidy and frees up a huge amount of space around that side of the engine bay.

Yep.

It relocates the mounting point to the front of the car - right next to the headlight - the rightmost bolt of the three across the front. The intake attaches to the other two.

From there it folds straight back towards the firewall.

It's still not making sense.
- The mounting should NEVER be on the firewall in the first place.
- the standard location IS behind the headlight.
- the standard resting position is across/above the radiator, NOT back to the firewall.

Doesn't matter, as long as you're happy and you think it's safe.

And re gas struts, I would never install a set. Bonnets are made to bend and deform a certain way. Take a look at the underside, half-way along the skeleton there are divets (like dents) running across.

i dont think you understand 1red5,
the bonnet stand doesn't mount on the firewall. It mounts Vertically now, so the bit where it clicks is near the firewall somewhere, apposed to stock (horizontally)

I agree with the gas struts. About $50 delivered and no more "pole" getting in the way. Takes about 15 minutes to install.
Cheers
