Aldi - great deal on fire extinguishers - 1kg - $17
Heading says it all really ... tons of them at Aldi in the Canberra Centre, I guess that means they are everywhere. Mine was stamped 08/2008 on the body, and the sticker says November 2008. Same as the Chubb/Quell ones, with the 2 strap metal mounting.
I got a couple, will put the one in the GM in the house and replace it with the new one. That old one must have cost me the thick end of $30, maybe more The other one will go in the SO's house.

Not sure if it fully complies with CAMS, but it does have a metal clamp, which is a CAMS requirement, whereas more expensive ones have plastic clamps.

It meets the same AS as the ones that pass scrutineering... I suggest if you are interested, you have a good look at them and see if you can tell them apart ....

Can I make a suggestion? Get a 2kg!
Hopefully you'll never need to use a fire extenguisher, but I can tell you from personal experience it's not fun! A 1kg extinguisher is great and all, but it wouldnt put out a bloody BBQ and when push comes to shove, I'd rather have a little more in the underpants department of fire supression.

... and they are back.
In stores this Wednesday, IIRC $15 for 1kg. Plastic mount in the box, but if yours, like mine, needs replacing this seems like the place to go.

That looks like the extinguisher, but the mount that came with mine was a metal bolt-on bracket, with two quick-release over-centre clips. I reckon the bracket is worth more than $15!
EDIT: looking at that photo again, mine might be a touch longer and thinner. Bottom line is, open the box and have a look and check what mount it comes with.

Also check the extinguisher dial before you hand over cash, when I looked at another brand in Bunnings, almost all their stock on the shelf was expired.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

there is always a reason why they are cheap. normally expiry date is close.

I would never have thought of that. That is why I come here, for the knowlegeable insights of forum members.

I don't know that this is applicable for the non-motorracing market, but is easily checked.
I am not getting a commission from Aldi for bringing this to people's attention, so I don't give a rats if everyone else totally ignores this thread.
Again, I bought a compliant extinguisher and mount within a few months of its manufacturing date, for fifteen bucks. The advice above, to check the date and the dial, is good advice, and you are a mug if you don't follow it. If that checks out, as it did for me, I can't see what all the gloom is about .
If it doesn't check out, you have wasted what, five minutes?

What bracket do they have?
One like the pic above?
Or a metal one with a manual catch of some kind?
If it's the one in the pic it looks like it would simply pop out of the bracket in a crash, which would cause 2 issues:
1: It's a heavy blunt object flying around the car hitting you.
2: If the car catches fire after the crash the extinguisher might have been flung out the window and you can't find it.
