I think dual front airbags were standard on all NBs.
Mine's got twin airbags.

Like My car, Oct 2002! :D

2001 did not have the OBD2 plug otherwise the SP would have had it.

Yeah, I went and bought an OBDII connector after seeing the information that was accessible via the port at a tech day at a Mazda dealer in 2002. Got home, pulled the fuse box cover off the car and there's a gaping great hole where the connector is on later cars :(

Sorry. I know it didn't become mandatory in Australia until 2006 and some Australian made vehicles had it before that, dating as far back as 2000 but it was my impression that vehicles made outside Australia that were also sold in the USA had OBD2. I know the RHD/LHD difference but, as you have the same ECU and wiring harness, I figured the OBD2 would be there as well.

Tom, cars imported to Australia have traditionally missed out on many innovative components. For example, dual frontal airbags were generally fairly rare in the 90s whereas they were nearly always standard in the US (possibly due to our much higher rates of seatbelt usage). Similarly it's taken a decade for ESC to become a mandatory item in new cars. And we still put up with detuned engines because of the relatively high sulphur content in our fuel (so the rumor goes). Ah, the "lucky country"!

Thanks for the info. When did you guys start EGR? Our 90-93 Miata did not have it and 94+ does. Other vehicles had it way before that.

That was when we had oil in Bass Straight - and that has been gone a looong time! IIRC, it was not the tune, so much as the emissions standards that that effected. It also affected diesel, perhaps more than petrol?

Our '93-'97 NA8 didn't have EGR - think we got it sometime during the '98 onward NB8, so NB8A or NB8B.

The sulphur issue is still alive and kicking:

Aussie 98 NBs had EGR
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
