Hey all, this saturday I am planning to go for a buzz toward O'Reilly's near Mt Tamborine.
I've only been there once, can't remember much about it, but according to the map, it looks like some nice twisty bits along Lamington National Park Rd.
If we go early enough, we can finish the night with coffees'n'lies at Gallery Walk at the Mt Tamborine Markets.
Here's the plan:
- Brisbanites meet corner of Beaudesert Rd & Illaweena St, Drewvale
- Be there at 1800hrs for 1830hrs depart. Sharp.
- Head down Beaudesert Rd, then turn off at Camp Cable rd, Jimboomba, heading to Mt. Tamborine
- Brief stop corner of Christie St & Finch Rd, Canungra, approx 1930hrs
Yes, it's a bit of a long & boring drive toward Canungra, but club (and former) members are used to it, and new members will have to get used to it.
*OOoops! Did I THINK that or say it out loud?*
We then head up toward O'Reilly's, stop for a bit, turn around and head to Mt.Tamborine.
For those living on the Gold Coast, perhaps meet at Bunnings Nerang and either head off the back way toward Canungra, or up the highway turning off at Beenleigh. Sorry, I'm not familiar with GC hinterland roads. Either way, plan to meet at the first stop at 1930ish hrs.
Any suggestions appreciated!

I think it's quicker to get to Canungra via Pacific Hwy > Oxenford. It's not exactly near* Tamborine either BTW - would be a good hour drive between those two, longer at night.
The drive to and from O'Reilly's is great, but not so good at night - cows on the lower parts of the road, and native wildlife up higher. It's much slower going at night. Much much better on a quiet week day when you can see much further ahead... The ultimate is very early in the morning TBH I'm not much of a fan of driving such roads at night due to lower visibility, and with so many tight corners up there, the headlights are never pointing where you want them to.
Have fun though, it's a great road I remember when it was dirt/gravel all the way and narrower than it is now

Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.

I'm happy to go up any time if that's the concensus, and people can make it, but the trade-off for greater light visibility is more traffic.
Also happy to follow someone and go a different way there as I only know of the one way, from Jimboomba.

There is an interesting road between Canungra and Mt Tamborine which takes about 15 -20 minutes depending on the traffic lights on the one way section. Clicky.

Tamborine Mountain Rd is a good one. When I was a youngen. We'd wait at the lights, heading down. Go red, jump onto the road. Go green, free road to the bottom.
Lamington National Park Rd is pretty poo poo. Potholes, buses and 4wds depending on the time of day.
The Beechmont Rd loop is much better.

1red5,
Keen for a drive. Saturday afternoon/evening is good & BoM looks ok (I'm sure they do their best)
Less potholes is good! Don't mind the freeway to get started.

Yeah M1 is preferred cause the back roads are rather bone-jarring for a fair stretch. Then meet at the Supercheap corner Logan & Lexington, right at the end of Compton Rd.

'K we got several takers.
Ignore meeting location on OP;
Meet at Supercheap, corner Lexington & Logan Rd (at the end of Compton), Underwood, at 6:00pm
Bring GPS Navigators if you have one.

Anyone coming from the GC, please reply or PM me asap and we can arrange to meet near the Oxenford exit, or somewhere on Tamborine-Oxenford Rd.
