Haltech Platinum 1000 ECU

Hi all,

Anyone running one of these with their turbo/non turbo setups?
I have a quote and some really friendly advice on this unit verses the Adaptronic.
Talked with a really competent tuner and he is convinced this is a better option.

Better overall ECU, More reliable easier to work with and just a better alround unit.
He hasn't said anything negative about the Adaptromic only there are other options.
He is happy to install either unit. Just recommending the Haltech.

I don't know Dann. I'm only trying to make my car smoother and more drivable.
Maybe a little faster too.(just a little)

A full standalone is exactly what you are after.

If he says it ill be nicer and smoother this probably means hes more comfortable with it, and is more confident he get it nice and sweet. getting OEM like drivability is the hardest thing for a tuner. Its the only thing that takes real talent, there are no guages or programs that can help sort out perfect drivability.

I agree with dann, when I crossed shopped the two I couldn't find many stand out differences except prices. You'll also note the adaptronic isn't in their "list"

One shop I asked sold both and said they were both similar and it wouldn't matter which one I picked.

just check it will control the nb alternator itself? ( I was shopping for an na8.

#1 rule when buying an aftermarket ECU is to find a good tuner and use their preferred ECU (ECU tuning is a black art)

ie. If you're happy with your choice, go for it, Haltech is a great ECU, just ask MINX

I chose Adaptronic since I'm a tinkerer by nature and Adaptronic ECUs are perfect for this.

I wouldnt say its a black art.

Anyone with an NA and 800 bucks can supply fit and tune their own ecu to the standards of most tuners.

This thread could go either way, Richard I know a great tuner who works with Haltech units, once I find the time that is the unit I plan to put in. Price was $1950 though, the tuner is a distributor and Haltech does the tuning at there shop.

My first NA turbo had one that was put in by a previous owner. The guys that tuned it are really in to their Haltech stuff and it showed, very driveable car.

I know that ECU can support a number of other things including a proper digital dash if you were going to go that far.

Haltech customer support was good to. We had some issue come to light with the ecu when we were doing some fine tuning which apparently was some glitch in a certain batch of ecu's that went out. It just needed a software update but it had to go back to Haltech for it. Even though the unit was a few years old they covered postage and the fix was free....I had a motorsport event on though and it looked like we could not get the ecu to them and back in time and I could not run without the fine tuning so a new one was over nighted to the workshop for me to borrow while mine was fixed.

The fine tuning is where a ecu man earns his coin I reckon. It can take a few trips to get it spot on so a tuner than stands by their product is a must. They can not always replicate every nuance of road driving or your driving style. We had an odd issue with my car in that it was tuned in the summer and on particularly cold mornings the tune was all over the shop so we had to tweak it one morning.

I could be wrong, but I beleive Gosbee has one of these in one of his MX5s.

He raves about them, given he had a stupidly big set of injectors running near perfect on his microtech powered car I'm guessing he considers the car or cars he's running this on to be just as nice?

Sean, the injector size they are recommending is 600cc with the Haltech.
Seems big to me, but they say the Haltech will handle no problem and I'm only looking at 150rwkw.

There's a lot more to getting it to idle cleanly than injector size alone, but if you're buying the parts your tuner is recommending (assuming he knows his stuff) you shouldn't have an issue.

Dann, are you running RX7 550s, or something else - Is E85 sensitive to spray pattern and atomisation as much as regular ULP?

A bit off topic too, but have you removed and inspected your injectors since switching to E85? I've seen some weird dirtiness on EVO's lately...

On the blue dyno-queen? or something else?
Do you know much about his cars? I hear about it and see it (the blue with side graphics) every now and again, but never on any club runs or track days.

It's interesting he would choose Haltech over "better" ones given the copious $$ he spends on his car.

Injectors were out a few months ago and were fine.

Although I do believe I am in need of a fuel pump soon. Im going to start a thread about that.
