There is a tiny bit of undercut on some of the pipe->head flange welds.
This is because when I went to weld the pipes to the head flange, for some reason, my foot control wasn't working. My garage floods and Im guessing it got wet in the rain the night before. So I stuck it on a constant amperage and welded. Where the pipes overlapped the flange less the work piece required less heat, and I simply couldn't work fast enough to avoid that fraction of a millimeter of undercut. And adding extra large blobs of filler woulnt have been very nice.
Certainly is a very neat and strong weld none the less. And clearly the penetration is clearly very good.

You have very keen eyes :D

Interested to know to Dann. Tuning options on a NB8B seem to be a bit limited, more complex or more expensive compared to the NA's I have had...tempted to pick up a smokey NA.....

Jorgan: Prices on my work have been PMd to a few people.

Keep in mind that I am not a shop, and Im not even a welder by trade. I WAS a mechanic, and currently am back in sales. If JB HiFi is my day job, this is my night job.

I cant yet give a definite price for a 'full kit' and havnt yet priced up what just the manifold has cost me to build. Not exactly anyways.

As for just telling you what JOJO82 offered me to do this, well lets just say the price is VERY reasonable.

If you are really keen to know PM me and we can talk specifics.

Ill tell people the approximate price for the work done here when everything is finished and installed.
Because the exhaust just looks like some dirty pipe with a muffler, and Ill be welding and installing the intake and intercooler piping the day all this gear gets fitted, the jobs only half done. When I have everything together, and painted up and looking like a complete professional install, then Ill let the cat out of the bag.

Actually MS3 will do everything you need. Except you need seperate alternator control, which saboteur can hook you up with for cheap as.

If I were to build a turbo track hack, id buy a complete but stuffed na6. Buy a VVT BP from the wreckers out of who cares. Run MS3, and GT2871. Ebay rods and pistons, 11:1 comp and E85.

Oh and of course Id pay me to build a tubular manifold and 3" exhaust :shock: :lol:

Why the VVT version and not VICS? I am intereted to know as I have just dropped a BP into my NA, and nearly have the MS3 ready to drop in.

2 questions from that response.

??? more bottom end power. Is this from the VVT only, or was there something else different between the heads / bottom end?

As for the flow of the heads, that goes against all I have heard about the BP4W heads. I was under the impression that the early BP4W, (ie with vics) flowed better than the late model ones. This was the main reason that Mazda used the earlier version for the SE?

I could be totally wrong, just asking

The VVT gives significant bottom end and spool improvements.

No sweat, had me worried that I should have grabbed a VVT motor for my NA. Now to get the sequential injection wiring done on the MS3....
