Ok so I've done quite a bit of research into the legalities of boosting an na6 but at the end of it all I seem to only find conjecture. Now the glowing majority of replies and reading has told me that it's just not possible to do legal unless you opt for the only ADR approved kit which is AVO stage one but it's hideously expensive for what it is and could build a FAR superior unregistered car for that price.
But I don't want to hit a GTR or something and find out my insurance won't cover me. So I really want to keep this legit. For a moment lets forget the specifics of what *I* want and just keep this objective here.
Are there any avenues I can explore and what sort of engineering fees will I be up against? A large amount of the research I've done keeps showing interstate information which certainly doesn't apply to Victoria. As such it seems that engineers in NSW and so on are happy to tick off just about anything for about $60 but it seems like in Vic we can only use Vicroad approved engineers off a list, you can only engineer if it has an ADR and if it has an ADR it has to be engineered, engineering fees may be a couple of GRAND and it's "pass or fail".
I'm sick of turning up conflicting information place to place and hoping someone who has actually been down this route PERSONALLY can actually lend some advice. I've still not been able to find a person to get advice from that has actually successfully engineered a turbo build in Vic.
I'd be MOST appreciative for any advice. Please lay off the flaming bullshit and "you're obviously not ready for boost" crap because I read that in way too many turbo threads on this forum. I want to keep this as objective as possible so it can be used as a reference for others as well.

Always this where ever in the world you live.
Forums can be a source of good information but they are also a massive source of conjecture, heresay and good old fashioned bullshit. You will never get an accurate and reliable answer on things like this.
The ONLY way to know for sure is to make a list of your requirements and go to an engineer and ask if it can be done. You will likely need to pay to cover his / her time.
Anything is achievable if you have the money to pay for it. Up to you if you think it is worth putting that in to an NA....

Curious if you could find multiple people willing to build an identical setup could you split the cost to get one vehicle EPA compliant with applicability for all. I assume this is how AVO / others do it and then amortize the cost over the kits.
Assuming you could put together a common kit of parts at a reasonable price and get buy in from 5 or more people in Vic.
$3000 / 5 = $600. Not so unreasonable.

I'm not sure if they accept the same parts and say it's all the same.
In the AVO case, I'm pretty sure it can only be made legal if installed by AVO.
If you do it at home it's no different (to the law) than an ebay kit.
I think the other issue is programmable ECUs, they're an automatic fail from the EPA.

The more I look at this the more it seems to be completely not worth the effort trying to get it legal. Just build whatever you want, keep the outside looking stock and dont draw attention to yourself with your driving or a farty exhaust.
There is always the option of buying an SE / SP and living with the pros and cons of that.
Or just forget having a turbo MX5 and buy an Evo.

Was speaking with one of originators of the info in the links above, & unfortunately, as a member of the public, it seems the vehicles need to be emmission tested individually in Vic at least.

The AVO kits are not really that badly priced.
If you give them a call and talk about where you are and what you want they're pretty easy to deal with. I've seen a lot of guys get a price considerably better than what is advertised too.
I've installed a couple of the AVO kits, and despite what a few people who've never owned or installed one will tell you, they are good quality and well thought out. Ask anyone who's owned or installed one - they do exactly as they should and have stood the test of time.
You'll appreciate the AVO kit long after you've forgotten the extra few hundred dollars it cost you. Plus you have good support available direct to/from the manufacturer and you know every single nut and bolt is included.
