5 stud conversion and coilover questions

Postby chino » Tue Feb 28, 2012 5:11 am

hey guys!

Long time follower of the site, so i finally registered after not finding the answers that i kept searching.

Ive bought a mx5 with a custom convertible lisence, where the guards are flared out. Currently its sitting on 18x8.5 rims, and im in Dire need to find the best set of rims to suit my wants.. haha!

im about to order 17x9.5 SSR SP1s, but the issue i have is that having the 4x100 studs are hard to find rims, let alone re selling 17x9.5 rims. So i would prefer the 5 stud conversion so if i needed to sell rims it would be easier. Ive searched online but it seems that everyone ends up staying with the 4x100 PCD as it was too much hassle. But ive heard you could use the rx7 hubs? Im wanting to know if this is even possible before i place my order.

Also, would coilovers designed for na8 and NB fit onto the NA6? Ive seen shocks fit onto both, but there is a set of Coilovers im eyeing where the owner cant answer my question. Cheers in advance!

sorry about the long read...

Coilovers will fit na and nb models regardless of engine size.

i don't know for sure if its possible (anything is possible with enough money!) but I would suggest that your best bet is to search on the us forums.

miata.net
clubroadster.net
etc etc

for people who have done v8 conversions. it seems the most likely people who would need a 5 stud conversion.

good luck.

Cheers for your help fellas

Ive bought the vehicle that has a custom kit on there, which has much wider guards then normal. Its been registered as a 2005 custom covertible, rather than mx5. So essentially, its a kit car?

my level of confusion just rose... Please post pics of car! Certainly not a kit car and the registration baffles me. I dont ever recall hearing a flared mx5 has to be registered as a kit car...

It may be like those MX 5 that look like a BMW Z3, or Aston martin type kit. maybe thats why its registered that way as a lot of the body panels are different. But yes some pictures of your car would be great.

Sorry Fellas i didnt mean to cause any confusion!

Yeah it has a z3 kit on it, but i hate it. Ive just bought another na6 that has been written off with a recon motor and ive just begun work. I would want to put the front end back on but the car was a gift. The guards arent just flared na6, but rather just larger then what a mx5 should be due to the kit.

Just got my Teins so the build is starting to take place. I doubt you guys want to see what i looks like now, because ive started to strip every thing haha
