Re: 89 Eunos - Stock steering wheel?
My understanding is that no NA6's came with airbags - in any market. Doesn't look like any stock MX-5 wheel I've seen before, and it's certainly not the normal Momo or the Nardi that came in early LE models. My understanding is that if it had an airbag, it would have "SRS" on the wheel. Chances are that the middle piece is just a removable "crash pad".

Looks very similar to the steering wheel used on an RX7 (and I think also a few Astinas)
I can't tell if it's an airbag wheel or just fat.
btw, the US market MX5s had airbags, you can tell by the ugly 4 spoke wheel they had.

Apologies.
I just looked it up, not an RX7 wheel.
But certainly not an MX5/Miata/Roadster OEM wheel.

Not seen that wheel before on an MX5. Although, have seen some OS ones with a bulky wheel - maybe USDM.

Plastic 323/Astina wheel, no airbag. Someone swapped out the Momo!

Do you have the original manual for your roadster. Does it refer to an airbag? Is there a airbag diagnostic module in your Roadster?
I've had a quick look at photos of other Roadsters have was not able to see a simlar steering wheel on any of them.
For the record all North American Miatas have airbags as standard.

Edit. According to this website ==>> http://specs.amayama.com/mazda/eunos_roadster/
Airbags were added as option to the Japan Roadsters around 1990.

Re: 89 Eunos - Stock steering wheel?
You are welcome.
From what I can find on the big forum, if your NA Roadster has airbags fitted there should be a airbag module tucked up under the dash, just above the steering wheel.
The module is blue and looks like this (module is on left, firing capacitor is on the right)

This is a factory NA airbag wheel.

My understanding is that Japan and Australia did not have aibags on any MX5/Roadster until the NB.
The USA had airbags all through the range, I'm unsure about Europe.
There are 2 ways to tell if it's an airbag wheel for certain.
1: Take off the horn pad. You'll see the airbag module if there is one.
2: Crash it and see if it pops out.
(note: Option 1 is STRONGLY recommended over option 2)
