GO with the MCA shock OMG
I had the PSS9s in the rally car and upgraded to the 3 Way Remote Canister MCA's
using the Same spring rates the Ride quality was 100 times better (even on the road)
Is the rough S**T on the gravel it feels smooth and controled
Then again for the price they would want to be.
The next car is getting the same from the start

So now I've got to looking at the xida club sport. Seems like a better setup for me than the FCM in roughly the same pricepoint. Still need to figure out some resonably compliant spring rates.

Thanks for the advice Russellb. I'll probably be asking your shop to install whatever I end up getting, so your views are important
Can someone link me to the MCA vendor or tell me what it stands for? I have no idea what MCA is and Google isn't helping.

Murray coote automotive. Everyone I've talked to says they will never fit anything else. Even alot of the excel rally boys run them as there is a "home pull down and service" how to. So they can clean crud out of them ect.
They cost an arm and a leg, but so do the components he uses. Based a bit north of Brisbane.
If you are looking at the exida anyway, definitely worth having a talk to him, each set is made to suit.
On my list if I ever have that much cash to throw at them.

Yeah, websites that don't list prices scare the crap out of me. Maybe I'll shoot him an e-mail and get a vibe. I'm keen on a quality product, but not a product that costs half the value of my car.

each corner cost as much as a set of yellow speeds (if not more) PLUS springs
The rally car is at the shop at the moment and I'll be there wed and thurs if you want to tak it for a spin

Right, $4k for shocks alone is probably getting a bit insane
I went to that day last year where the public were offered rides in various rally cars to raise money for charity. I was super keen for a go in the MX5 but got stuck in a i30 Diesel. Worst day of my life.
Perhaps the 949 XIDA with the helper springs is the ticket.

I might have missed it....What is putting you off the local solutions? People seem to be happy with the Yellowspeed coilovers with the soft spring option for example.

Yes, clubsport. About $2k. Maybe $2.5 including shipping and tax etc.

It seems to me that you can choose two of the following three: cheap || comfortable || good peformance.
The reviews for the yellowspeed DYNAMIC PRO SPORT make them sound fairly uncomfortable AND the spring rates make no sense to me (Spring Rates NA/NB: Front: 8kg Rear: 6kg). I think I'm looking at something more like 7kg/4.5kg (maybe). I don't want something cheap which is then going to be uncomfortable and unbalanced on the track because the rear springs are too hard.
I also really don't want to buy a system, then decide a year later that I've done it wrong and need something else. Buy once, buy right.
I don't object to a local solution at all (I would prefer it). But there doesn't seem to be anything local which tells a good story about quality (a conjunction of comfort and performance) without the price becoming huge ($4k is too much). Perhaps the marketing associated with FCM and XIDA is sucking me in The XIDA and the FCM seem to talk at length about results at the track and compliance on the road "I found this suspension more comfortable than stock suspension" said so-and-so.
Perhaps there is a local product that's right for me, but I'm missing it (I'm really no expert and my knowledge is quite limited about the range of products around).

Look into dms suspension through gsl rallysport. Will end up being a little more than the xida's, but will have dual adjustment and local servicing. Drummed motorsport. I think they're in melb.
Big in the rally/tarmac scene. Just another option to look into.

It is easy to sit here and reel off brand names really but without knowing spring rates or the suitability of the valving in the shock absorbers to go with those rates it is never easy to know what is good and what is not.
I thought Tien Australia can make a custom set up for you? I reckon you would be not far off the Xida with cost though.
I guess if you want something perfect for the car you have to pay for the development of such a product...$4K per corner! Makes you wonder what sort R&D goes in to a $250 per corner set up.......

Nah 4-5 k total! Depending on what you want, ie external reservoir, mounts.
Yes, and most of the cheap ones won't give you typical dyno graphs little own specific graphs to the set you get sent.
Also based on mca stuff the parts to make them costs more then a cheap set sells at ;-)
