Re: My thoughts on LEGAL Turbo engineering (NSW BASED)
I just checked:
Ian Carpenter
Kreative Enterprises
Pty Ltd
Unit 16-17, 124
Ham Street
South Windsor
NSW 2756
P: (02) 4577 3633
kreativeent@bigpond.com
Took ages to find out the process from the RTA website, one would swear they don't want us to engineer them properly!
I've only contacted the two of them so far as they're the most convenient for me, but I'm going to broaden my search next week

Athol Mullins is in the process of sorting out getting on the NCOP list.
He was always very friendly and open with advice under the old scheme.
My understanding is that he was just waiting for some amendments to his insurance to be approved by the RTA or whoever and he'd be on. It may have alrady happenned by now.
You'd do much worse than giving him a call.

I was told last night that he is currently not taking on any new clients at all. Whatsoever, not even a wait list.

His definition of new clients may be looser than you expect

Re: My thoughts on LEGAL Turbo engineering (NSW BASED)
Young guy in S14 with typical dorifto mods...
Like I said, he's thorough...
I beleive the new customer limitation is not his choice, but part of the new scheme (could be wrong).
I suspect if you were using a shop he had on the books, he might be more interested, all assumptions from my conversation...

FYI, just checking for engineers today for some other stuff and found that RMS has updated the list. It's now at http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/bulletin_1_v21_17_05_2012.pdf

Updating the links.

Licensed certifiers - http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/ ... vsccs.html
Anyone recently got engineered a turbo NA6 under this new scheme?

Re: My thoughts on LEGAL Turbo engineering (NSW BASED)
Just had my NA8 engineered under the new scheme.
Mods:
Turbo;
FMIC;
Boxed pod air filter;
Megasquirt ECU;
Exhaust;
NB8B brakes;
Coilover suspension.
The process is very similar to what it used to be, except a blue slip is no longer necessary. You get your IM240 and weighbridge ticket, and then take it all to your engineer with a list of your mods. He/she goes through the car, checks off the weighbridge and IM240, and gives you a document entitled "Compliance Certificate". This document is an official report listing all your mods and your car's details before and after the mods. It is signed by the engineer, and is entered by the engineer into the RTA database. So you drive the car away from the engineer and it is legal - you keep a copy of the certificate in the car at all times.
The next time you register the car, your rego papers list the fact that the car is engineered as modified "in accordance with Compliance Certificate XXXXXXX (number)". You keep the certificate in the car at all times to show to Mr Plod should he be interested in the nature of your hot little beast, and also for your rego inspector when they do your next pink slip.
Expect to pay between $700-$1500 for your Compliance Certificate (depending on the engineer and the extent of the mods). The IM240 is free but is a long wait so book early. Weighbridge tickets can be free or anywhere up to $50 depending on where you go. BEFORE YOU GO TO THE WEIGHBRIDGE, LIGHTEN THE CAR AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! Extra weight will be charged to you on your rego so keep it light - low fuel load, no spare wheel, etc etc.
In short, there is little excuse not to get your car engineered. The tuning to get you through IM240 will probably be more expensive than the rest of the process, unless you DIY the tuning or get it tuned for E85 (recommended).
Just read above comments on Athol Mullin. Athol was going to engineer my car but has been uncontactable for the last couple of months. I used a guy in Narellan (listed on Bulletin no.1). Shop around, you can negotiate prices.

I'm looking to get seats and roll bar engineered. They would obviously meet the compliant ADRs, would the engineering costs be very high?

There's been a few people talking about engineering small scale items lately in the Sydney area. Maybe if we had a few of us together we could get a bit of a discount? Assuming it would be cheaper/easier for the engineer to be looking at the same parts of the same model car.
