Dont worry about the metallic bits. That's just your pistons..

Running rich much?

Eeeek!!
That does sound bad.
Do you think it has been detonating?

Last time i ran it i used brains AFR targets with ego on upto 110kpa.
Seems to have stopped alot of the fuel smell.
Was a bit leaner than what you had put on but not much.
I have not really been boosting much as the oil issue was bugging me.
Hoping this new restriction fixes that.

Hard to say what the metallic bits are, could be bits of the manifold left over from grinding and welding etc. Could be piston. Id suggest you get a strong magnet and find out if they are aluminium or steel.

Im starting this new turbo build tomorrow.

Silly hey, 3 inch V Band straight off a T25, it'll spool at 2500rpm lol.

Also, why are you changing the oil feed? It works great..?

Magnet is a good idea.
Will try to collect a few. Can't really see them except when i used the flash.
I prob should have flushed the manifold first Haha.

Im going to the other feed location mainly just to tidy that feed line and i am thinking about using the head feed for oil temp.

After worrying a little about the shiny metallic bits in the mess inside my turbo i contacted Braineack, who built the MS for me just to ask to see his timing map as he is running a 1.6 also.
He asked me to send through my timing/fuel and AFR maps.
I have actually changed to running his AFR targets anyway but i sent them through.

TIMING

This is what wrote back,
That's a CRAP TON of timing. I'd be VERYYYYYYYYYYYYYY careful running that.
at 15psi of boost, I run 16° of timing on my stock 1.6L motor.

He then sent through his timing map which he has been running for 6 years and requested that i change my numbers to match his.
This is his,
Image

Only problem is as he has a MS3 and i a MS2, his Timing table is 16x16 and mine 12x12.
So i decided to lose a few of his columns to try and scale it for mine.
As i am only running approx 8psi i left off his top row of 230Kpa and just maxed mine at 178.4Kpa which by my calculations is about 11PSI.

So this is what i did. ( by i, i mean my girlfriend  )
Image

So my table now looks like this.

Hopefully this will save my engine.
If anything looks stupid to anyone can the please stop me from lunching my engine. haha

Looks fine. I dont believe I changed any timing except for adding around 3 degrees at around 5psi at the very top, and at idle to smooth it out.
I never touched anything above 5psi as we never got more boost than that.

Having said that, when we were tuning it was a nice cool night, and water temps were cold, so it was less likely to det then than in sydney traffic on a hot day.

Like I said, needs dyno time.

Yeah.. It prob was not a problem.
I think I've been hitting about 160kpa which i think is around 8-9psi?

Really need a boost gauge in the car :)

Cars back together.
Oil feed is now from down low.
Image

Also replaced passenger side engine Mount while it was easy to get to.
Will try and do Driver side tomorrow.
They are MAZDASPEED Mounts.

Passenger side had a huge crack along the bottom of it so was worth changing.
Image

Not too noticeable in that pic but if you put any pressure on it, it just opened right up.
Hit the downpipe with a quick go in Heat Proof Black Paint.
Tried to make the Oil Return slightly more downhill.
Changed to colder range Spark Plugs.
Also replaced Clutch Slave.

Got a almost normal intake setup, at least it should work till i convince DANN to work his magic on a custom job.
Image

So will finish a few little things tomorrow morning then go for a drive.
Can't wait!

One last thing,
When did HYUNDAI start making Decent looking HATCHES?

Went for a small run yesterday, just around where i live.
So not much of a chance to do anything.
Was really just to make sure nothing was leaking etc etc.

Decided to log part of the trip.

Looks like i am hitting a bit over 9PSI.
Which with a Greddy Turbo/actuator i would have thought i would have been closer to 5.5/6PSI?

Do you think the actuator might not be the original one or something else at play here?

I would feel happier if it was less boost right now.
Sleep better!

Here is a screenshot of the log at a Max Boost time.
Image

Does anything look odd to anyone?
I am still running the stock exhaust so full boost is closer to 6000rpm haha.. LAG MUCH!!

Look ok... hard to say without the file, as theres no scale down the side to tell anything but at that exact point in time.

Run the wastegate actuator from the intake manifold and you will get a couple more psi.

Anyone See SLIPKNOT last night??
Image
AWESOME SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Malibu News, i have been reading up and asking people about my getting almost 10psi from my Greddy's stock actuator.
Should be 5Psi.

Apparently it appears i have too much preload.
The wastegate looks as though it is not even opening on the log according to .
So will adjust tomorrow and report the results.
Hopefully that locks me into a safer 5psi range.

Also received my Magnaflow cat and Muffler today from the US.

All 2.5".
The muffler is a centre to offset.
Can not wait to get that all sorted.

FTFY.

You need a working wastegate, but 10psi is totally 100% safe, especially on that teency weency turbo. :)
