Will a generic power antenna fit - or do I have to go genuine?

Happened to be in Autobarn today and they had a wall full of antenna mast and cable replacements.

I bought this for my '04 SE:

Took me 10mins to install.

I have a working power antenna if anyone wants to buy it?

I bought the mast for my power antenna from the dealer for $70; P.O.P to fit and I don't have to worry about bogans snapping it off when I'm parked.

Does it work as well as the original on weaker stations?

The antenna came with a power wire that you can hook up but I didn't bother and I get all the station that I listen to, I only lose signal in carparks etc.

Signal is definitely not as strong as the OEM antenna, I can't say how it is with the power wire hooked up though.

It would be interesting to know what difference the wire makes as I put a stubby antenna on my NB and the signal is pretty poor out in the country where I live

I love it, only one better is in our Toyota where you can set the maximum height.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
