When i spoke to an engineer quite a few months back he asked me to get a before any mods "Emissions Report".
Makes no sense to me why, but hey its free in NSW so i thought why not.
I called the RTA and they booked me in for the next day at about 12pm.

This is the reports for the 2 runs if anyone is interested in what a stock car with a 20 year old cat puts out





Most of it means nothing to me, but i was surprised by the difference in almost everything on the 2nd run considering it was only a few minutes after the first run.
Guess that shows how much better a hot CAT performs then just a warm one.


Also if anyone is interested here is the Emissions Levels for cars in year brackets.

That's a really interesting set of test results. Thanks for posting them up. I'm amazed to see that it easily passes the 1986-1996 criteria, and the second run was almost good enough to pass the 1997-2002 criteria, except for the NOx. Do these criteria apply to both test results, or only after the car is up to temperature? I could find out myself by searching through ADR37, but I'm hoping you might have been told that already by the RTA tester.

The tester told me its best to arrive with a hot cat converter.
As you need to pass both runs.

So don't show up and leave it sitting

So i spent most of today at 3 different so called "MotorSport Fabricators".

Just trying to get a nice intake sorted.
Nothing crazy.

Here is my Arts and crafts time to try to explain what i was after

They all would need a few days and non of them could do it one piece for some odd reason.
They all wanted me to buy numerous pieces of silicone and piping from them!! UGHH!!!
This is how i wanted to run it.


Have a smaller pipe welded on for the BOV return and a smaller one for the Breather.


I would then build a box to enclose that side of the car much like MR BENDER did.


I really like how that tidies everything up and looks practical to me.
At the track you could just remove the passenger indicator for nice flow.

No one seemed interested in this, they just seemed to want me to pay for a bunch or pipes and silicone that i can do myself at home.


So i decided to just go a easy way for now.
Bought a 2.36" 135 Degree Silicone for the Turbo Inlet.
This will go to a straight 2.25 Aluminium Pipe i have which will go to a 2.25-3" Silicone for the Filter.
Should hopefully arrive tomorrow or Thursday.


This should work for now, and i can always have the intake pipe sorted later on.
Hoping i can attach a return for the BOV to my Aluminium pipe myself somehow.
I do not think it is thick enough to drill and tap.
May just get it welded on if i can find someone willing around North Sydney.

Also during the garage clean-up i realised i forgot to put the colder range plugs in.


So i will do that tomorrow and try to get the undertray back on and see if i can figure out a bracket for the MS to mount properly in the car.

Would it be just as easy to mount the intake forward more towards the headlight? Gotta be colder air there even if you pop the light up a bit? Maybe PM Uncle Arthur, or see if you can get a look at his setup. He routed the intake back towards the firewall where the Lock Stewart intake use to take air.

There's heaps of options for you to consider. It's just a pity most of the intakes have to grab air from the hot side.

I agree Jules.
I would prefer to place the filter behind the headlight but the way the I/C piping is i just do not think it will work.

I will have a look and see if Uncle Arthur has a Garage build.

I thought of running it straight into the firewall like a Mania Intake but am not really keen on drilling and i would hate for a engineer to turn his nose up at that.

Hopefully when the silicone arrives i can at least run a useable intake and not my dodgy Bunnings setup i currently have

you'd get heaps of flutter/spool noise with a cowl-intake right? like, an overwhelming amount of noise i mean.

has always made sense to me for a turbo to suck air from the cowl. backwards mount turbo with the turbine housing and dump pipe front and compressor housing back, sucking air from a very direct tube from the cowl, would be very efficient am i right?

Actually now you mention it. Yeah, Ive considered this myself. Theres a 2JZ miata in the states with a 'backwards' turbo.

Makes sense to me, but a well designed manifold allows you to have an almost straight downpipe, which is nice too.
