Power antenna

Postby CoachOz » Fri Feb 10, 2012 10:19 pm

My antenna has snapped in two - probably old age.

Will a generic power antenna fit - or do I have to go genuine?

It is possible to purchase a replacement mast and drive cable, have a shop around.

I see these on ebay often when people put the rubber dildo S2000 style ones on.

There's a member looking for a manual antenna you could organise to buy his power one.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Thanks Greg - this seems to be the best deal at the moment $44 including postage.

Has anyone put one of these on an NB? And if so, how was the reception?

One of what on an NB?, you may find an OZ retailer that stocks similar replacement parts, I would imagine that fitment would be dictated by the diameter of the bottom section and overall length.

I think that the sales pitch says it all, and you are dealing with a reputable organisation.
"This replacement is only 17.5cm tall vs 40.0cm for the original, and works just as well. No loss of reception at all".

Yes, but will it fit an NB - are the holes the same diameter?

Sorry, but this was not your original question.
Greg.
P.S. I like the elegance of an eletcric antenna and often fear for the safety of the 'stubby' antenna on my NC.

I'm also looking at replacing the mast on my 1998 to a fixed stubby. I don't like the mast-look and I think a stubby might be lighter.

The problem with the one linked in the second post is

"Fits all Mazda MX5 Mk2/2.5 models with manual aerial only. Please note, this will NOT fit vehicles with electric aerials."

So that's a problem. I thought all our MX5s (NB) had electric?

Seems that in the UK the electric aerial may have been an option.

So it looks as though we have to buy a manual base as well - total cost $84 including postage

Yeah, UK & US often had base models well below ours.
