Looking for reasonable speakers for NA

I am planning to install a Kenwood DAB+/CD/MP3/Aux-in/USB headunit into my NA8.

I was going to get a set of Jaycar splits/crossovers which I have used previously, however Jaycar no longer sell them

Can anyone suggest some reasonable speakers for around $200....willing to look at/listen to both split and non-split speakers.

JL C2600X's for around 170 at JB, not splits.

or JL C2600's, around 270 at JB.

Ticket price is 229 and 399 respectively, but these prices are attainable if you just go in and say such and such a Jb store quoted these prices, gimme gimme gimme.

i think i bought alpine co-axials, they're really good and i got a good deal on em at autobarn. (i got co-axials because i didn't want to have to mount a tweeter somewhere)

speakers are speakers when it comes to MX5's, with so much road noise you'll struggle to hear a different between $80 coaxials and $300 splits imo

i added some dynamat to the doors (just around and behind the speakers, not the whole thing) and i'll get some headrest speakers soon too.

ford laser/NA8 single DIN headunit, ipod FM transmitter and it sounds good enough for me!

dynamat around behind the speakers is a waste of time.

Splits will make a huge difference for various reasons.

The big 2.

Crossovers... allow the woofer to act as a woofer, and the tweeter to act as a tweeter. Without a crossover both speakers are trying to do each others jobs.

Sound staging... high frequency sound only travels in a straight line. If the tweeters is mounted on the woofer in the door the treble only gets to your ears by reflecting a dozen different directions first. Muddling with all the other trebble bouncing everywhere, and getting to your ears heaps after the bass does, this is why component systems have harsh high ends that lack clarity.

I would also look on Ebay once you get an idea. Used gear goes for a song, and most of the time you don't see the speakers. At least I don't

I can see the JL Audio speakers that Dann suggested on e-bay at a good price....as well as other brands.

Damn Jaycar. I could have bought speakers when I bought the headunit when JB were have a 30% off car audio sale recently....

Since your suggestion on these speakers I have done some research and seems that the consensus is that they are great speaker, with the additional bonus of being at a good price.

Westside Sound and Image in Morley, Perth. The tweeters were abit brighter than what I'm used to, but I was able to turn them down a bit with the EQ on my HU.
