I didn't build the car to get your approval. The 15x10's with spacers will fill out the guards. I am building this car to hopefully beat guys that have big budget racecars, with big hp. It's not like I am building a car salon type show car. I look forward to getting the car finished, if it looks good, then that's a bonus.
I plan on getting the doors finished, then concentrate on getting the driveline in the car, and have it running.

By real tyres I mean 275 A6's like the yanks do, not 205s or 225s like us aussies.

that said if this is to be a time attack car then those tyres will not be aloud as they are not a street legal tyre.

I am hoping that a wide r spec does com out soon. I would buy the 275 hoosiers anyway to see how they go around the track for sprint days.



I couldn't widen the wheels, so i made them into 18's.

I was given a link that you type in the drivers name and it gives you all your lap times. It hase some, but not all. I looked at my first track day in my first mx5, the turbo na6. The best lap at Phillip island was a 1:57.9. So far with a stock nb8b motor I have nearly matched that time. I am hoping to better it on Sunday if we get good weather.

It's not photo shop, it's paint. And the 275's do come in dot legal rubber, albeit with only 2 lines.

There's some weird tires that come with DOT certification, like MT 13" drag slicks with a single groove and no other tread.

I went down to phillip island on sunday for the first round of the victorian super sprint. I decided to go into standard class, as i don't have many mods compared to what the modified class allows. So in the morning i went out on 15x7's and 2 year old starspecs. The car was slippery, and in 2 sessions the best i could do was a 2:01.7 in each session. So after having enough of driving a wet noodle, i bolted on my $80 ebay wing. Bolted on the 15x9's with 2 year old kumho v70's, and riveted on my canards. I also threw on the splitter/undertray for the full aero package. The car was transformed, for about 15 minutes work the car dropped down to 1:57.8. The front undertray got ripped off almost completely just before turn 1. I decided to keep going, and when i cam back in was amazed it was still on with only 3 bolts holding it on and the rest torn out.

So i went back out without the splitter, and got my times downt to a 1:56.7. I was thinking it wasn't possible, but my goal was a 1:56.9, easily beat the dream time i set. So the splitter must have been working for it fold up like that. I will make a new one and brace/support it better. Other good news i am not doing any racing next month, instead - working on the c.f car.

Were the conditions the same for the afternoon sessions as the morning?

If so then 4 seconds improvement from R specs and Aero.

The gain from R specs over Star Specs is about 1 sec to 2 secs tops.
Leaving 2 - 3 secs gain from wing & splitter...

Interesting..... (hmm, RES is looking more and more inviting for next year..)

The conditions where pretty much the same all day, VERY strong head wind down the straight, but otherwise perfect. The car did a 1:58.5 without the aero and on r specs. The same setup did 2:01.7 with starspecs, and 1:56.7 with aero anr r specs. So looks like the r specs are worth at least 3 seconds (they are wider, and on wider rims too). The aero then is worth around 2 seconds. It feels so much better with the aero, i think i could have held it flat around turn 1 at about 190+km/h. I was backing off less and less, and it just hung on. In the morning i was using the brakes, in the arvo it was a brief lift as i was going into the corner. It is so much more fun to drive a car that isn't sliding, and fighting you on every corner.
