hot ticking?

i've been diligent and completed my cartalk search but my issue seems a bit odd

so I've got the reverse of the usual cold start up ticking, only happens when the engine is hot???? the ticking is intermittent

recently had an oil change, getting this done again just in case - mechanic mentioned oil pressure, wrong oil? I've read about lifters being the issue...used some lifter cleaner when it first happened, didn't seem to make much of a difference, should I try Nulon before having the work done to change the oil?

any idea's or is my car just super tempra--mental

the engine is a "newbie" - 1.8 bp with 100k or so, had new timing belt etc, oil is nice and clean....

ahhhh damn money pit, it driving it wasn't so much fun!

Check oil grade and level. Its certaintly a lifter based issue, If its an NA8 engine replace the lifters, if its a NB engine, shim the lifters.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with any additives. Just try a really good oil. How long since your last change?

Now, when i say good oil you are looking for a Group IV/V oil, current grade (SN) with high zinc and of course the correct viscosity.

When i got my car it would tick for about 10 seconds or so when cold, and after a hard drive (also my car is turbocharged).

Have a look at Penrite Sin 5, that is what I have run for the past 2 oil changes, and it is great. Never ticks, and good constant oil pressure.

sounds like the oil when at 100c operating temp may thin out to be the wrong centistoke. what oil are you running? most BPs like 10.5-11.5 centistrokes at operating temp.

In laymans terms, like a 10w-30 would achieve this cSt. Might be fine for a stock N/A motor.

old skool 10w-30 miniral yes, newer synthetics 10w-30 maybe no...
