Sorry to tell you,

at 25.4 mm in an inch,

25.4 * 7/8 = 22.225 mm

not even close to 24mm

If you try that spanner, it will either not engage the filler plug properly, or if it does engage at all, it might just round off the bolt.

Nope 22.225 depending on tolerances.

15 16th is closer. Each 16th is 1.6 mm, or near enough you'll never spot the difference.

Bummer! the guy on Miata net Garage said actual bolt size of NB 2002 trans. is 23mm and he used a 7/8 inch "box" spanner.Maybe that fits but I'd rather use a Ring spanner.

Far as I know, only one Diff. bolt is said to be 23mm..
confusing :?
Anyway I'll get the Redline MT90 in a couple of days and go to it then.....

Actually nobody was forced to contribute and obviously lots of people are very happy to have a chat about the nuances of filler plugs....
Why do people have a problem with that and make smart comments? ( :beer: )
Wouldn't they be better racking off and doing something positive rather than complaining?
To each his/her own I reckon - where's the harm? Are we running out of pixils or something?
It's not particularly smart or cool to complain about people having a good time talking about useful stuff.
It's obvious there's more than meets the eye in transmission oil changing and a lot of information to share,pitfalls to be avoided, and encouragement for those who might have been reluctant to give it a go...

You want useful replies, or information. Ask these questions at Miata.net or Miataturbo.net.

There is many step by step books that give detail about the basics in engine maintenance. I have no issue with your questions, I just think people get bored of the same questions over and over again. Let's discuss an interesting topic. I'll start one.

And the rest is just more and more useless banging on.

Anyways, not coming back in this thread. Even though all I did was answer a question that was asked, openly and honestly, im sure it wasnt appreciated so ill stay out.

The OP did try it to be fair and does not have the kit on hand to cut through a socket inside a week...your advice was taken and acted on.

Next bit of advice was to use a shifter which other people said not to do as only the most expensive ones dont slop around.

Then the OP purchased a spanner which actually doesnt fit...so all of a sudden we are at two pages!

If someone does not have a lot of tools or space to work in or has never really been one for getting mucky the smallest problems can seem huge and unworkable so lets not pick on him.

Personally I have a big spanner set with metric and imperial, I also have a heap of sockets but if none of them fit I just use a trusty shifter. I do have a decent one though. I will say with using a shifter that it is better to be working close to the bolt so you can see for sure you have it adjusted tight.
