Intermittent starting issues, aftermarket alarm/immobiliser?

Postby pootie » Thu Feb 02, 2012 11:22 pm

Hey all,
I've been having kind of a strange starting issue on my 94 NA8 that's becoming a lot more frequent.
Steps are:
1. Disable alarm with remote as usual
2. Key in ignition and turn to 1st (car audio comes on)
3. Turn to 2nd pos (car attempts to crank, can hear 'click' sound coming from the fuel inj. relay)
4. Then nothing, all electronics are dead.
5. I then open the door and close it with a bit of force and amazingly enough power is back (audio player settings reset)

This repeats over and over again (15mins today) until finally the car cranks and runs like a dream.

Have tried many different spare fuel inj. relays. It does have an after market Rhino alarm/immobiliser so I'm thinking this might be it.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Chris

Check battery voltages and clean/tighten terminals then pull and replug all the connectors after a clean.
I had a similar problem which I identified as being a connector with multiple pins, all I had to do was unplug/replug and all was well for a day or so..finally pulled/cleaned to find one pin had been pushed back at some time and was only just contacting.

Sure that click isnt the starter motor solenoid, and the door slam isnt jolting it in the same wasy as hitting the starter with a bit of wood?

Thanks for the replies, I'll have a much closer look at what you've said suggested.
Much appreciated.

SOLVED!

I went to clean and tighten the battery connectors and found they were really loose. Cleaned re-tightened and the car's run perfect since. It would appear the shutting of the doors was enough to jolt the connectors to bring the system back.

Thanks for the help folks!
