Question on Wolf 3d v4 plugin ECU for NA6 and early NA8

Postby aka_juffa » Fri Feb 03, 2012 9:28 am

A question for those of you that have, or have had a Wolf 3D v4 plugin ECU for NA6 and early NA8 models.

As I understand it this ECU plugs straight into the existing wiring loom. It uses the existing sensors, and with a built in MAP sensor allows you to remove the Air Flow Meter.

I am wondering if the plugin unit also supports additional external sensors, such as air temp and knock (Wolf knock box) sensors. While I have no plans to go forced induction in the short term, I would like to keep my options open.

Thanks in anticipation.

If you are familiar with Patrick Bramstons white NA6 (affectionately known as 'Casper'), its a turbo registered 1:06 at wakefield 200+RWKW car.

Ive just removed its Wolf 3D and fitted a megasquirt 2. Now it starts, idles, has electronic boost control etc etc. Unlike before.

I was AMAZED to find that the wolf had NO air intake temp sensor. At all. How can it even meter air?!!?

So I doubt it can take one because this car is no expenses spared and chased tune issues... A LOT, stupid people who put it in.

In other news, Anyone want to buy a PnP Wolf ecu? :D

How much are you selling it for Dann?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Daffy_flyer on here had all sorts of problems with his Wolf and ended up ditching it for an Adaptronic?

Dann, you also mentioned that the Wolf user interface was far from user friendly (ie. DOS), or was it an older EMS system?
If it's like my mate's brand new Microtech interface, it is rubbish.
Jeff, go for Adaptronic or MegaSquirt or anything that has a proper user-friendly interface unless you want to make good friends with your local tuner.

Jeff, checked Wolf3DV4 & Wolf3DV4Plus documentation & they support air temp sensor, coolant temp sensor, TPS, NB & WB O2, & AC request - for knock sensor refer my PM, inconjuction with it's boost control output. Aforementioned are in addition to auxiliary inputs & outputs & built-in MAP sensor.

Don't know what version Wolf PB's car was running, but if it's the genuine Wolf3DV4 or Wolf3DV4Plus Plug In (aka PnP) then clearly whoever fitted it & later worked on it were not familiar with the Wolf's capabilities, for which they only needed to read the hard or soft copy manual.

Oki, Juffa's first cab off the rank on mine (Wolf3DV4 Plug In for MX5 1989-1995), but I'll let you know if he doesn't proceed. Assuming, of course, you haven't already bought PB's.
