Uneven pad wear

Postby mx5gem » Thu Feb 02, 2012 11:16 am

I've noticed lately that my rear brakes are only using half the pad area (the outer half further away from the centre)
(Std rotors, std pads, NB8A. )

I initially assumed it would be slider pins needing greasing, though now think this would only cause different wear rates for the inner and outer pads, not uneven wear on the same pad?

I dont have a picture of the wear so have stolen Beavis's pic from another thread to illustrate, (apologies for the theft..)
disc.jpg

Essentially I am only wearing the red area, even though the pad covers the red & blue areas..

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing it?

I had the exact same issue - when investigated it was ungreased and bent slider pins. If it is left rear as mine was it may be the same problem. I have sme pictures I thinkn if you would like to see them PM me an email alias.

Cool. Mine is right rear but that's not really relevant as could still be same cause

Surprised this could cause that as the slider pins orientation to the pads is north-south whereas the wear is east-west.

oh. well. Real world result speaks for itself.
Thanks floda

It is strange and itwasnt until we pressed the caliper apart that we worked out the pin was bent. The dry pin could I supposed allfor some of the odd wear pattern as well.

Good luck with it.

If anything, re-lubing or replacing the slider pins won't hurt.
