Introduction

Postby Duane » Tue Jan 31, 2012 7:58 pm

Couldn't find an Intro section so I'll try here.

I'll be lurking about trying to learn a bit about these cars.

Sportscars are fairly new to me, road and dirtbikes are my background and roadraced motorbikes on/off for the last dozen years.
Retired for good from roadracing a few years ago.
Had to find something to get me off my rapidly expanding backside so I went shopping for some 4 wheel fun.
Looked briefly at a new MX5 but I had longed for a Lotus, so it was a 2008 Lotus Elise S that found its way into the shed.

Well the racetrack beckoned and I got 3/4s of the way through a sprint series and made a very stupid rookie mistake and stuffed the car. A huge bill later and its recovered as good as new but the bank balance hasn't.

The desire for some more racetrack fun is still there so I'll be lurking about for the next year to gain some knowledge (and some funds) and I intend to purchase something cheaper to risk/repair for some racetrack abuse.

I get out on regular (usually weekly) runs up through the hills east of Melb (I live in the Dandenong Ranges) often with fellow Lotus drivers/forum members and organise day drives and emrs there.

Would love to tag along on a drive or two to learn and quiz you guys on the things to look for etc, as long as you don't mind a pommie car tagging along.

Cheers
Duane.

Gidday and welcome Duane.

That's a mighty fine chariot you have there; I have a real soft spot for the S2 Elise and would love one for a track car. Alas I chose the MX5 as it is cheap to buy and repair, but it's also a great fun car that's easy to drive; particularly on the track.

There's lots of good info here and a great bunch of blokes. I'm sure they'll make you more than welcome. Drop me a PM if you ever find yourself up around Bathurst way for any reason.

Regards...

I agree with Lee. Get your ass to GC when you can. It's a bit of a drive but it will be well worth it for what you want. We have people of all walks in there, young, mature (old  ), motorkhana and track racing people etc. It's a great cross section of the community and a lot of knowledge spread between so few people.

I think you'd get a lot out of it and be able to listen to a variety of opinions on mx5's etc. And lets face it, most people who bought an mx5 did so because they couldn't afford an elise   so you won't have any trouble making friends

Hope to see you there sometime in the near future and talk about cars, bikes, racing etc.
