A clutch can be both organic and heavy duty. HD refers to the plate pressure, where organic refers to the friction material on the disk.

Just looked at the box i had from my clutch kit and the number was 6944 too, no hd though, the clutch the part number apparently indicates that the clutch isn't part of a kit so I think I have the same pressure plate but an organic clutch, if that makes sense. So it's half way between heavy duty and standard.

But Dann, then why would we seemingly have the same pressure plate, which your suggesting is the HD part, and different clutches, which might I add is where the actual real part number is which is used to define which sort of clutch it is? Denoting whether it be HD, organic or ceramic.

Organic just means that the clutch plate used to be a living object. Organic plates are reffered to in the industry as a rag clutch. made of compressed cloth fibers.

Of course, one organic disk can handle heavier duties than the next.

Yeah I have no idea, pretty n00b with this stuff. All I know is that I bought a normal clutch and the heavy duty (HD) was an extra $20 or so.

Been busy the last week with prototyping a few gear knobs that I hope to produce in the future. With help from a friend, these were turned manually on a lathe and made from stainless steel and Nylon with a steel insert. Threaded specifically for MX-5/Miata models.

Will be testing them over the next couple of weeks to see how they perform. And final production units will be available in stainless steel or Delrin.

I took some photos of the process and will update later with installed photos. Enjoy =)

1. Bored out the centre and drilled a hole for the thread
2. Tapering the bottom half of the gear knob
3. Rounding/smoothing the top of the gear knob

Completed piece with a nice smooth brushed finish.

Yeah thought about it, have to have a proper think about it. Not sure what the best way to secure it yet.

It gets damn hot inside an MX-5, daammmnnnnn hot! So I picked up some vented front quarter windows. I wanted the KG Works winged windows but they're about $1200.... the ones I got are the next best thing =P

Installation was a breeze and they get a lot of air into the car, works much better than I thought. They're made from Lexan and the vents are designed for light plane air ventilation systems.

So first thing was to remove the door card, this will reveal a few bolts that hold the the window frame. Slide the seal out to reveal two screws to completely unbolt the frame.

The window then slides out pretty easily, rubber seal comes off too. I then cleaned it up with some warm water and soup, heaps of gunky build up.

Slide the cleaned up seal onto my vented window, so pretty!

With the help of some rubber lubricant, the vented window slides in very easily.

I like! I wanted this but wasn't sure if the would fit my NB. Can you take some closeups please? I'd like to see the vent clearly...maybe I can knock some up for myself...

My handbrake handle is held in place by a grub screw on the underside. Where did you get the windows and how much? If you don't mind me asking.

I've been slowly building my MegaSquirt DIYPNP ECU, just wanted to take my time so I don't screw anything up. I have configured to be run on a standard engine with MAF removed, just so I can learn how to tune the basemap. This means standard narrow-band O2 sensor, stock TPS, etc...

This is the ECU harness connector, plugs right into the MX-5 factory harness.

I found this to be the hardest part of the build. Heaps of wires that need to be cut to length, stripped and tinned. This pinout will be different for each model of car, pinout can be found on the DIYAutoTune website.
