Alarm remote problem

Postby snshami » Wed Jan 25, 2012 12:14 am

Hi, my NA8 came with an aftermarket alarm fitted. From what I gather it was a Mazda dealer fit. I have looked but cannot find any name or model number for it anywhere. The problem is that the batteries on one of the remotes went flat. I replaced the CR2025 with two new ones and the little led on the remote now lights up telling me that it has power. However it does not lock or unlock the car anymore. Do I have to train the remote. Is there a standard way that remote keys are trained.

I am guessing the responses I'll get will be that all alarms are different and I have to provide you with more information. Is there an easy universal fix I can try.

* 1 of 3Sit in the driver's seat with the door closed. Open the driver's door.
* 2 of 3Insert your key into the ignition. Toggle the key from "Lock" to "On" three times. Close and open the driver's door three times, ending in the open position.
* 3 of 3Press the "Unlock" button on the remote twice; listen for the door lock to cycle. Remove the key from the ignition. Programming is complete.

Try it... don't forget to take a video and share.

Hi hamx5ter thanks for the suggestions. I'll try them out this evening.

BTW to answer the questions posed, the colour of the remotes is brown like faux wood. The other remote does work.

I'll post the outcome.

Hi, it does not work. What were the common types of remotes that dealers installed in MX-5s.

Can't help, but if you can't find the make / model number AND it isn't a mazda branded one,
try doing a google image search (ideally, take a photo of it against a sheet of paper for a plain b/g).
Perhaps it will turn up as a product shot somewhere and you will be able to chase down the model / instructions from there..

Alternatively, I guess you could take it to the key / lock shops along with the working remote and see if they can program it for you.

Should be able to glean the make/model or a part number from the control module.
Favorited hiding place is under the radio/tombstone, in front of the gear stick.

Here is an image. It actually had fake woodgrain on it before that rubbed off.
