Megasquirt owners thread

Postby gslender » Sun Jan 15, 2012 9:34 am

Wait for the next version. It is based on MS2 and is way, way better than MS1 PNP.

The code for MS2 can keep the stock oem idle with the recent mod improvements. These aren't available with the MS1 based PNP.

If you get desperate, PM me and we can sort something out re me building you a DIYPNP.

Hey guys,

Firstly, Gslender, I just bought an MS2 for a friends car from brain. It cam loaded with your firmware v1. Congrats.

So I have a few questions.

when I go to configure AIT and CLT sensors, it doesnt have any settings up. Is this normal? As in, where the settings go its blank.

Do I just choose rx7 afm and rx7 clt?

Secondly, the TPS is getting no signal, its just the stock TPS right now. Should I expect it to not do anything?

Thanks,
Dann

The tune file never contains or keeps settings for AIT or CLT. You load calibrations only after an ecu burn. I have a GM IAT so the defaults work for me, and for CLT I use the rx7 clt.

Unless it is a Variable TPS it will do nothing... What model mx5 is it? Plus it also has to be wired up for it. Common option for non-VTPS is to wire in a resistor so the input doesn't float (in which case you can't just wire up the VTPS without cracking the ecu case and removing the resistor).

Check with Brainiac.

great, Im fitting the optional GM IAT sensor now.

And Ill load up rx7 CLT in the morning.

It has no tacho, so I guess the standard pullup will work and thats the plan.

Lastly, the car starts ok, but then will only run at high rpm. If you let it drop it dies. Im used to having a page with all the sensors showing digital guages, so I can watch IAT and make sure it looks right, CLT, AFR etc.

Can I do this in tunerstudios?

Something like this.

Image

Its annoying as im not really familiar with this ecu, and although it does start, it seems to run really nice unless you lets the revs drop down to....3000rpm, hardly seems tune based, I cannot see if the fuel pump stops.... Would be nice to see all of these stats, or any advice to go along with it would be great also.

Thanks heaps,
Dann

Dann,

Sounds like timing might be out. Did you check that base timing is correct at fixed 10deg first?

Also, the standard dashboard in TS normally has all those things, plus you can add more too if you wish.

Maybe start another thread if you need more help with tuning, or pm me and I'll send me email and you can send me the tune (msq) and log (msl).

Dann, what base map did you use to start off?

My car started right up to an idle when I first flashed my DIYPNP and installed the basemap. Timing trigger, TPS calibration and sensor calibration got me to the driveable stage on the DIY Autotune basemap.

And yep, that variable TPS mod is a must, unless you want to do MAP-based accel enrich which (as you know) sucks arse.

Ive used the base map that brain put on it.

Ill post it up.. WHAT, I cannot post an MSQ.....

There we go.

I need to confirm the injector size and fit the IAT this morning, the IAT logs at abiot 21c, but I do not believe the previous ECU was running an IAT, I certaintly cannot find it, and the temp never changes in TS.

Desperately seeking some DIYPNP assistance here!!

The unit powers up and connects everytime with 12v wall adaptor to my laptop.
Using the cars harness it is a paper weight. :x

I have checked with a multimeter and confirmed i have 12v coming out of the harness on the Blu/red (constant 12v) and 12v violet (switched)
Does anyone know how i can check that the MS is actually powered up?
I have tried the ECU on 2 NA6's with the same results.

ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!!!

Looking at the board this way, find the 12V pins near the bottom edge of the board - now look just left and down of the BOOT word, and GND is also here too on the right. In the middle is a 5V pin and a SG (signal gnd). Check 12V against GND (and it should be ~12V). Check 5V against SG (and it should be ~5V).

Also, if the board is working, it should put 12V on the fuel pump for about 2-3 seconds after first turning on (normally supplied 12V by OUT from the high-side-drive near the top to the right of the PROTO AREA). This is controlled by software, so a good way to confirm the board is working by switching on the ignition (you may need a friend) and checking the fuel pump has gone 12V and then nothing.

Try all this and come back with the results...

For those running a MS2 based squirt... I've updated my firmware mod to version 2.2c

http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=43793

This link contains the firmware, documentation and source for those interested. A lot of new MS3 features have been ported back to this firmware.

OK i ran the tests this morning.

I appear to have 12v at the pin on the lower section of the board, and 5v.
The 5v pin has nothing attached to it, but it is giving me a nice 5v signal.

One oddity is with the fuel pump switch.
When i use my wall adaptor i get up to 15v for a second or 2 then it drops down to 0 again.
When i am using the cars harness i hear a clunk clunk from the fuel pump but i only get to about 4.9v and only for a flash.
Like less than a second.

Car does not even sound like starting with the MS attached.
Basically as if the starter motor is turning over but that is it.
