Number Decals

I'm going to get into the local hill climbs this year (paperwork mostly sorted!) - which involves having a number on the side of the car.

I'm after something slightly more profesional then using gaff-tape to draw a number on.

I quite like the big white circle decals which I see on some cars on this forum - and then putting a number onto the big-white circle as required.

My problem is that I can't find anyone who sells the large white circle decals and large number decals/stickers which would go on top of the circle as needed. (Stickerart.com.au does 'tribal' and 'racing' numbers... not my thing http://www.stickerart.com.au/?cPath=22_75)

Does anyone know a store that sells decals a numbers of a useful style? And does the big white door circle have a name? Or is there another good solution to the need to put a number on the car?

Thanks for the help. Probably a basic question, but I've tried lots of searching and can't find the answer

Most signwriting shops also do vinyl stickers nowadays.

decide how big you want the white circle, then decide the font of number.

They should be able to cut one out for you easily.

Another option for a much more temporary solution, simply print the number onto a couple of A4 sheets, get them laminated, then tape them onto the doors as you need them.

Try a white magnetic sheet from office works I think there about A4 but you might be able to get bigger, then you can buy numbers (boat Rego size) from a boating accessories place like Whitworths or Bias boating and stick them on the magnetic sheet and remove it when ever you want from the car door.

Assuming SDMA? Unless you're getting two full sets of numbers 1-0, it won't but much use to you sorry, as you'll never get the same number twice. The numbers determine your running order and they change every event.

Not very pretty, but they provide you with laminated sheets of paper to stick on the side of the car on the day.

Yes, SDMA. So the event provides the number? I was asuming I'd need to DIY.

My thinking was that, it's only 10 events a year, I can buy a new sticker each time - no big deal really (especaially with the pre-positined big-white-circle approach).

Electrical tape doesn't damage paint?

Electrical tape is safe, it's not very sticky so it comes off simply.

The only hassles are getting it to stay stuck if the car is dusty, and if you leave it on in the sun for too long some of the glue can stay on the paint.
In saying that, the glue comes off simply with a bit of soapy water.

Yeah, the club provided numbers, you only need to provide tape.

I just use cloth tape. I wipe the door down before sticking it on and all is well, does leave a residue but it washes off with no effort.

Revolution racegear at Queanbeyan (Gregory street I think) have the CAMS approved backgrounds and numbers - I get mine there - Black circle (on red car) and white numbers.
Neil Bates and Reliance Automotive may also have some.

SDMA and MX5 club provide their own numbers to run on the day, so you don't really need them unless you run other events. The CAMS manual provides the dimensions required for their events.

Magnetic backgrounds are popular for road registered cars so they can be easily removed.

Sometimes with the magnetic stuff you still need a bit of tape along the leading edge to stop it flying off when speeds get up.

You could go with the magnetic background and use a whiteboard marker to put your numbers on at each event

I have a vinyl cutter and a number of colours in house.. There are some limitations in the CAMS manual from memory regarding font and size but let me know what you need and I am sure that I can probably use some off cuts so we're only looking a buck or 3 depending on the number (1 is easy and 8 uses more vinyl)
