Response by people I had talked to in tuning was itbs were much easier to tune on a dyno.

You need dyno time if you want a power increase.

You also need new trumpets if you want a proper power increase, the originals are far too short.

Sweeeet dyno time it is.

The trumpets that came with the kit are 75mm, did some measurements and they should clear the brake booster and master.

No, they are far too short. There are 3 advantages to ITBs.

Less restriction in intake. So is a mania intake.

Very large total throttle area (FAR more than you need), so you get good feeling response. Its mostly false due to large throttle area, not actual extra response. the large throttle area in the equivalent of opening the throttle faster with less throttle pedal movement, so its not actual engine response improvement.

Tunable runner length.

The trumpets that come with the kits available are all tuned for far too high an rpm. So you lose the only real advantage they have, the ability to increase volumetric efficiency through pulse tuning.

Ohhhhhhhhh noes, nah she'll be right. I've seen a few other companies produce 90mm velocity stacks, but I'll make my own when I play around with the car.

Anyone know how long trumpets are in the Mazdaspeed ITB? Or the factory Toyota ones?

Both the mazdaspeed and 4age ones are different as they have plenums.

the mazdaspeed ones are stupidly short as well. Gonna hazard a guess at 70mm or so.

I think I saw you at mx5plus on the weekend - nice ride.

you're blog seems to be broken btw.... no wait - it is working now....
Cheers,

dann i think u should just let him mod his car.. I know u have a lot of knowledge but its his car, his build thread.. If he personally asks u go ahead.

Seems like ur just filling his build thread with sh*t. I think u should realise not everyone wants to do things the way you do.

I make a suggestion, then explain my thoughts logically. Not hurting anyone.

Also I had a flick through your JDMST thread, the resistor on the temp sensor turns the fans on sooner, not runs the car richer. The ECU sensor is on the rear of the head.

Yeah the resistor was in series with the the temp sender rear of the head. Temp sender on thermostat housing was untouched.

So it was a resistor series with temp sender at the back of head, and in parrallel with that resistor was a temp switch that would short the resistor when it reached a certain temp. That temp switch was mounted near the thermostat housing. So basically it allowed the car to run on cold map for longer.

Wow, I follow your blog and didn't ever realise you lived in QLD haha, how awesome are NPC, however what was the part number for your clutch, mine isn't feeling as light as I had imagined and now im thinking it may be a HD rather than an organic?

I heart NPC, good prices and they're fast.

Part No. 6944HD

When I went to get my clutch kit they said they don't keep the MX-5 HD kits on the shelf and would have to make one up for me. Waited about 20 minutes for them to build it.

Haha, thats awesome, found my part number but it doesn't line up with exedy's normal ones so I still have no clue, its definitely organic though, did they give you a really tight pressure plate? I have very little play room to engage it so it bites hard, I don't mind, makes double clutching easier but its something i'll have to get used to.
