no idea on the legality of it but you can get 245 40 15 tyres from avon. they cost a bomb and have a utqg of 20 but they are wide. if not then you could get 235 50 15 r888's.
there is some talk in the states of petitioning a couple of tyre makers to make a more mx5 friendly 245 40 road tyre. it will be a while off though.
