sailaholic wrote:Should check your info. I was sure the nb 6 was a bp based engine. The na engine was a b6.

bp blocks are longer due to the different bore spacing.

if the engine is a bp (engine number should confirm) then an bp cams should be able to fix with some work on valve clearance.

Also rather than buy from Japan think about buying local. Tighe do cams for under 800 a pair based on using you're stock for base material and about 1100 for new billet items. obviously you could get the profile tweaked to suit I'd they are local.

Finally, more than,9mm lift requires new springs. Depending on how old the engine is the valve springs may have softened anyway.

Single spring set up would set you back 400 odd to suit 10MM lift.

Yah that was me with the exhaust. Saw your car last night at jdmst too.

Hey mate.

The NB6 block is a B6 block, I know because it's head gasket is the same as the NA6 B6 engine. So the only difference is really the head or maybe just the components in the head.

Will also look into getting custom cams made here, there are heaps of options I suppose. Just haven't done the research yet.

I was thinking of doing the ITB and MegaSquirt stuff first and learn how to tune it. Then later down the track I'll get the cams made along with getting a worked head. Just slowly build this car, I'm in no rush and have a daily car so allllll good!

ITBs are almost completely useless on a stock car.

Ok so more to the point Im wondering why one would spend 1500 odd on something that will gain nothing now, when one could spend 750 and buy a set of 280* cams and shims to suit and make 100rwkw with no other mechanical changes tomorrow.

For fun and adventure :D

Bought the ITB kit "new" 2nd hand for a steal, so thought why not? I have heaps of spare time and I like doing everything my self. Once I finish the build with cams, worked head, ITB, better headers (not sure on this one yet) it should be a fun.

I completely understand where you're coming from, but I still want to play around with the ITBs and cams and head and exhaust, blah blah blah.

Engine Swap Completed - http://omgpham.com/engine-swap-completed

So stayed up late last night getting it all ready, completed everything apart from gearbox oil and timing. Didn't run into problems, just followed the service manual etc.. Did everything by myself, actually pretty easy to pull/install engines in the MX-5.

And now the photos I managed to take =)

New clutch on and aligned, my freshly blasted alternator case.

The modified NB6 intake camshaft to allow use of the CAS.

ImageImage
Timing belt TDC, timing covers on.

ImageImage
Gearbox mounted and ready to go in =)

ImageImage
Lowering it in slowly, easy does it.

BBOOOOooooooooyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!

ImageImage
Exhaust manifold and valve cover back on.

ImageImage
52mm dual core aluminium radiator mounted up.

ImageImage
Intake back on and temporary catch can installed.

Bleeding clutch with a one man brake bleeder kit and filling gearbox with oil using a funnel and hose.

Fair enough on the nb6, always thought they were a small bp. Misty have read stuff wrong way back when.

some minor cosmetic updates...

Garage Star Radiator Cooling Plate - http://omgpham.com/garage-star-radiator-cooling-plate

Ordered a Garage Star Radiator Cooling Plate, pretty decent price of only $60USD shipped from the US.

So below are some photos, enjoy =)

ImageImage
The build quality is very good and comes with all hardware to install, also a sticker =)

ImageImage
Image
Definitely helps clean up the engine bay, also has added cooling benefits by keeping airflow directed through the radiator.

R-Package Rear Lip - http://omgpham.com/r-package-rear-lip-stuff

Took some quick photos of my baby also to show the R-Package Rear Lip I recently installed.

Now the R-Package Rear Lip =)

Side Skirt Install - http://omgpham.com/side-skirt-install

Installation was a breeze and only requires the factory bolts as well as some self tapping screws. I took as many photos as I could below, but it's lacking because I was so excited....

ImageImage
Didn't take me long... FedEx guy was still there when I opened the boxes!

Jacked her up and removing the factory bolts.

Installation completed and looking haaaawt!

MegaSquirt DIYPNP ECU - http://omgpham.com/megasquirt-diypnp-ecu

Ordered my ECU from DIYAutoTune.com last week and it arrived today, will start building it ASAP and get it running on the stock engine. Should be able to get some practise tuning the ECU before I get time to install the ITB setup.

The DIYPNP ECU is based on the MegaSquirt Micro Module V2.2, doesn't have as many features as the MS3 but still provides a lot of tuneability and options. Definitely more then enough for a ITB intake setup.

This is too good! Will definitely contact you if I need any help. Do you think it's neccessary to get dyno time or will a street tune be all that I need?
