Wow $2000 for a damage like that?

I promise you .. i can professionally get that done .. for less.

An entire paintjob cost 2 grand.

new door : 200
hinge mount : 150 MAX
hinge.. (try to get a door with one .. cant be more then 50)
paint 250 - 500 (profesional 10/10 job) $1000

I feel your pain on the guards, I have booked my car to have all four corners rolled this Saturday under heavy braking I was worried i would damage the lip, or unseed a tyre!

Enjoying some R&R in the chill of the midwest USA. Hope you guys are enjoying the warm weather... or is it still raining? Whatever, it has to beat the -10C I have to suffer through. Bah - it isn't even a white Christmas either. Driving my father-in-law's rusty Dodge truck on the wrong side of the road does not compare favourably to my MX5 with the top down on a cool summer morning in the Highlands. I wanna come home!

On the positive front, I managed to pick up a cheap set of Toyota Corolla COP coils and pigtails from a MT.net member over here, and will be doing the conversion when I get home. Also picked up some good quality Rubycon capacitors for the tach wiring mod, as I am running Megasquirt. I know, there is some debate over whether it is needed - but from what I understand, the pre-OBDII cars (meaning the NA6s and the 94-95 NA8s) can benefit from the mod as the OEM ECU had these capacitors built in to the circuit. And I am too lazy to mod the tach to run directly off the Megasquirt. This is SO much easier. COPS plus connectors plus capacitors was less than $120USD.

Anyone have an old NA8 loom I can steal a coil-side plug from? That would save me hacking up my coil loom - no big deal though, I am not afraid of that. Still, I would be happy to cough up $20-$30 for that plug with a nice pigtail if anyone has one!

Also heard from Rupe that my shiny new Beatrush undertray FINALLY arrived from Japan. Should be waiting for me when I get home, together with my newly repaired car (guards and door injuries repaired...hopefully...).

Add to this that I have managed to snag a bunch of exciting new bits for my go kart (AIM GPS track mapping system, GoPro Hero 2 Motorsport Camera, etc) and a few other things... Ready for a new season of speed! :)

The only downside is that all of this expenditure has forced me to put off dropping $700 on a BD roll bar. Sad, but it is just going to have to wait...

Got back to Oz last weekend. I pick it up from my cousin's shop on Saturday!

From there, I have a few more small things to do before going for the IM240 and (hopefully) to my engineer for final OK.

I am hoping to scrape it in before the new rules come into effect... but I have a heap of non-MX5 stuff to do as well over the next couple of months...

There are a few threads on this site and heaps of info out there re the RTA (or Roads and Maritime Services or whatever) changing the modified vehicle rules in NSW in the next few months.

Final bill for the door repairs, front guard lip repairs, light front guard pull, and new paint on front guards and door was $1,200.

Looks great and I am super happy. Pics to follow :)

SO great to drive it again after more than a month off the road!

Washed, waxed, vacuumed, serviced, and ready for a fun drive up to Byron Bay this weekend! Putty Road is on the cards first thing Saturday morning - traffic will probably be thick but hopefully we can still get a nice run through there. Then over to Newey to stay with relos for Saturday night, and up the Pac Hwy to Byron on Sunday.

Here's to hoping that we finally get a few nice warm days for top-down cruising!

IM240 Emissions Test passed on E70 (Caltex E-Flex winter blend). First attempt! Who said you can't pass emissions with a Megasquirt and a home brew tune?

Went close on NOx (1.86ppm) but I thought that was pretty good considering I had about 45 minutes of road tuning in heavy Sydney traffic to get the E70 running properly. Added to this, the car was bottoming out on the dyno because it was too low so we stuffed around for like 20 minutes to get it to fit, which meant that the car got loads of heatsoak going which didn't help matters. The car still had the 2.5" exhaust and huge Jackson Racing hi-flow cat installed too.

Stoked! Car should be engineered by Tuesday next week.

Great news! You've got a BD rollbar in it haven't you? Did you get it included in the engineering inspection? Any grief?

Not yet... :( My expenditure on racing gear has been pretty high with the state titles coming up so the BD (and the MX5 in general) has been neglected. The drive up to the IM240 was the first time it's been dríven since the run to Byron 2 months ago (apart from the time I took Beelze for a spin around the block in it).

As for the TSIs, I know they do some good because when the car is parked and you put your hand by them, there is HEAPS of hot air coming out of them. The passenger's side TSI is right by my boxed intake so I'm sure it provides some small benefit. Probably not much though. I just think they look cool :)

Had to take them off for engineering ;)

So my wife decided to name my car. She insisted. I have resisted this for ages because I am not sentimental at all, but she can't help it.

My old blue NB she named "Azulita" which is "little blue" in Spanish.

After way too much harassment, I agreed to name the little white beast "Lola".

Why?

Because she walks like a woman, but when you put the foot down, she talks like a man ;)
