6UL wheels questions...

Read their site... still didn't really understand it so here's my question:

What's the difference between Gen I and II 6UL wheels? (if someone can describe the practical differences, that'd be good)



Also - if my alignment is for 16*7 wheels and I put on 15*7 wheels, what would be different? (other than the car being lower) Better handling? more comfortable? etc/

FYI: Tyres are 205/45/R16 vs 195/50/R15

gen 2 are stronger, i believe they are heat treated at a higher level and gen 1 was prone to crack after a few days of tracking.

If the offset is changed its likely you will need a fresh wheel alignment.

I think ALL 6ULs for na/nb are +36 though.

Ive seen 1 or 2 cracked gen 1 6ULs but i dont think its a regular problem.

Gen 1s were available in +36 and +40 offsets, the +40 were lighter by a bit, but not much, maybe 200 grams or so.
Gen 2s were optimised for the +36 offset and were lighter than the Gen 1 +40, and as mentioned they are also stronger.

They also rounded off the edges of the spokes on the Gen2s.

Thanks for all the answers guys.

Would the alignment be Different between +40 16*7 wheels with 205/45/16 tyres and +36 15*7 wheels with 195/50/15 tyres?

Dam, I wrote a good response to that but I czannot see it, was on a phone, might not have posted properly or at all.

Yeah if the offsets remain the same the alignment should remain identical.

i don't think you'll have issues with the alignment. but if you are puting fresh rubber on the car. best to get an alignment asap to maximize your tyre life.

wheels $800, tyres $600, why scrooge on $50-100 for an alignment?

I agree with you mate, but I'm just thinking about getting a 2nd set of wheels as potential track wheels.

Ideally, I'll have one alignment for both wheels and just pop the 15" on when I'm heading to the track. But it sounds like that's not possible from everyone's responses so far... unless I get the offset of both wheels to match.

I wouldn't worry about it as your alignment will be a compromise between track and street settings anyway.

got it spot on with the 15 / 16 switcheroo... That said, if the offset is reasonably close, it shouldn't make much of a difference.. just get it aligned for the track, and take it easy on the road, little Joe...

Track settings will have pretty aggressive camber, which wouldn't be good for a high km daily (I think BB does like 35k a year from memory?)

Also if rolling diameter is the same, I don't really see how the swap would change any settings except total track.

fair enough... I guess he should just get an aggressive street alignment .. I guess the real question now is, is he coming / going to the club track-day next month? :D

My wheels are 15 x 8.5 +3 and 15 x 7 +38 I'm guessing you know my track rims. I just have one alignment for both sets. Just get your daily set a decent alignment, your corners will love you!
