Crappy iphone vid doesn't really capture the ridiculous loudness, but here you go anyway!

Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
Can you accept your second choice but ask to still be considered for any vet places that open up from people not accepting their offers or deferring in NSW? One of my friends got into medicine that way in SA.
It looks like you're pretty hands on with your car, thats really cool to see, I'm not sure that my younger brother or any of his friends have ever even picked up a screwdriver let alone attempted the stuff you've done already

Yeah I think thats how it works, but I like the look of this vet bioscience course which is more about genetics/research/conservation, so either way i'm happy

Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
Complete Audio Install
So I am a bit of an audio nerd, a pretentious hobby past down from my grandfather
Obviously I don't know everything, so I spent a few months researching and designing an extensive sound system for little Ziggy.
Obviously a 20 yr old roadster is not the most ideal place to start, no roof and rattles etc. etc. but I WAS NOT going to let this stop me
I based my ideas on the MSSS found in late NA6 specials, so if mazda thought it possible, then i'm not completely crazy
This is what I ended up with:
This has been an ongoing install since I got the car, with me doing everything, and it is finally finished! I'm quite proud and excited so I apologise for the pending large updates and many many pictures

Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
Which uni are you applying to?
But pictures are pretty!! Good work on the horn; I probably would have twisted wires together and then electrical taped them...

Head Unit
Clarion CZ101A
When I bought the car it came with a japanese head unit, so I assumed it was the stock one, but it actually wasn't and didn't work anyway, so first thing was to remove it and replace with an Aus spec one.
action shot
Ever since my dad found out what JDM means he tries to use it all the time in sentences, so when I pulled the jap hu out, he looked at the radio frequency band, which is too low to work properly in Aus, and said with a straight face "Ahhh soo JDM it doesn't even function in Australia"
My goal was to get a hu that was as subtle and discreet as possible, surprisingly hard as they all seem to be blingy chrome crap. But eventually I found this range of Clarion that has a gloss black detachable face, mine has 45w rms x4, rca sub out, aux in and a sh*tload of settings.
I would have preferred a usb in aswell, but this was free so I can't complain
After like 2 hours of measuring and drilling and swearing I managed to use the original mounting cage to mount the new hu.
At the moment there is a dodgy single din cubby box and blanking plate because NA6's have a retarded size radio hole
BUT I have just received the proper sized cubby from mx5 parts UK so I will install that this week.
Door Speakers
JL 6" C2600X
Best $350 I have ever spent in my life. These 2way speakers are absolutely amazing, if all you want to do is upgrade your door speakers, get these. They are incredibly clear and have a substantial amount of bass.
However the OEM speakers were 6.5", I didn't get that size for 4 reasons,
1) they were $100 more
2) they had a detachable tweeter which I was not going to cut into my door cards to mount
3) if I mounted the tweeter in the centre of the woofer it stuck out to much to fit under the stock door grilles
4) they were out of stock
So I just got the 6" size and made an adapter ring out of wood. Easy
I also sound deadened the doors. Yes it makes a big difference.
Door trim was off in literally 2 mins! So many holes for 'air leakage'
Useless helper fell asleep on the job
Apart from scraping off the black gunk, dynamating the doors was heaps easy, the only issue was my central locking actuator, which I covered with a piece of acetate so the sticky Dynamat wouldn't interfere with its movement.
all done after about half an hour, no holes! door trim fitted back on fine
Speaker in
Lots more to come

Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
So jelly that you already have your NA. 850 posts on this forum and I'm still saving up my cash. But I'll get there, and then I'll rip out my stereo because who needs a sound system when you're in a sports car??

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

My doors rattle because of my speakers, do you think the dynamat would help?

Did you Dynamat the outer door skin as well? Well worth doing if you haven't already
kudos for all of the work you've done to your car, keep it up!
