Hi everyone,
I have installed my ATI harmonic balancer on my crank and I don't think it is on all the way, but now I cannot get it off. I have broken and bent 2 balancer pullers.
Does anyone know of an super strong puller or any alternative ideas.
fyi - the engine is fully built. My last option is to take the crank out and put the whole thing in a press, only problem will be the oil pump might be in the way.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Si.

Re: ATI Harmonic Balancer Stuck on Crack (Ideas?)
I have a puller that might fit (not sure if it's the same as you've already tried), wonder if the hammer action of a rattle gun might convince it to move better than using the puller as normal.
Have you sprayed it in lube?
Anything on the ATI website?

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I have a fairly strong 3 leg puller you can try if required. On a separate note, have you got a spare collant temperature sensor, the one that goes into the housing dreictly under the coil packs. I managed to snap mine putting the engine back in this afternoon.

Re: ATI Harmonic Balancer Stuck on Crack (Ideas?)
I have a 3 arm puller, I am a little concerned that it might damage the balancer, I think the balancer splits into 2 parts, so this type of puller might be an option.

I haven't played with one of these dampers before, I'll guess it's the one flyin miata sell?
http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?dep ... %201991-95
Hard to tell from the photo but most dampers have a rubber ring of some sort so I would not use a leg style puller on the outside. If the 3 holes are threaded then places like http://www.dicandilo.com.au/ sell steel off cuts by the kg and always have bins of random size circles etc to pick through. Find a nice thick circle of about the right diameter and drill and tap for a custom puller. Use a fine thread pitch bolt for the centre bolt. I can help out with taps etc to make something if you need help. Spending the time to make a custom tool is much better than busting the part with something that almost works
Have you confirmed it isn't all the way on by measuring a stockie? The distance from the bare end of the crank to the easiest to measure pulley rib should be the same?

I don't know for sure whether it is all the way on or not. If I put a straight edge across the cam pulleys and the idler bearings, it looks about 2-3mm to far out, also the water pump pulley does not line up, but the water pump pulley is not a stock one. It is 1 rib out.
Does anyone have a stock ribbed water pump pulley I can have or borrow - that would pretty much answer the question.

I have one on an NA8 engine that you try. I presume that they are the same as NA6. Let me know if you want to try it.
