I think it will be OK height wise, it's just whether or not I can get enough volume in the custom sump. The height from the crank centreline to the top of the valve covers is less than the B6, but the manifold will make it slightly taller. I was planning to go dry sump but I'm not sure if there will be enough room for the pump.

Will I need to keep the EGR valve for engineering? It would simplify a few things if I could ditch it.

No idea on engineering..

As for the sump, should be no problem if you make it wide enough like the greddy SR20 sumps everywhere.

Theres plenty of room down there.

As for dry sump, there shouldnt be an issu mounting the pump, the biggest issue I see is locating the tank, what with the cam covers so wide up high in the bay.

Thanks Dann, looking at these pics I think I have enough room in front of the engine for the tank if I chose to go dry sump :mrgreen:

The engine and gearbox are in! Bolted up to the PPF but no engine mounts yet, that's the next job.

I had to trim the adapter plate a little bit to get it to fit, but I was going to do that anyway to save some weight. Anyway, on with the pics.

The drivers side has a bit more room than the passenger side, didn't take a good pic of it but this sort of shows it

There were really no problems getting the engine in and engine mounts look simple, but there were a few potential issues I saw.
It looks like it will be difficult to fit the A/C pump in the standard location and route the exhaust round the front of the engine.
I definitely need to relocate the oil filter as it points directly at the subframe and you can't actually fit a filter on it.

But other than that, IT'S IN!!!!!

Thanks Paul, there's quite a bit of room on the passenger side but the drivers side manifold is about 25mm away from the steering shaft so I'll have to do something about that. If I could get another passenger side (or front manifold as it would be on the MX-6) then I can put it on the drivers side and that would give heaps of room. The two sides are interchangeable but you can't put the drivers on the passenger side or it points directly at the oil filter. I'll have to relocate the filter anyway so I'll wait until I've done that before sorting the manifolds.

Yes, I'm going to trim the outside of the adapter plate as close as I can with a bandsaw. The inside is a bit more of a problem but nobody can see it, the weight saving from filing it flat is minimal, and it doesn't interfere mechanically with anything in the bellhousing. I'm going to leave it as-is.

Would anyone be interested in a swap kit of an adapter plate, a set of engine mounts, wiring diagram (for aftermarket ECU), list of part numbers for hoses, etc? I might do a limited production run if there's enough interest. The adapter plate would be water jet cut. This definitely won't happen until the engine is completely in and rego'd but if a few people say they'd be interested then I'll make a jig to I can replicate the engine mount brackets.

Unfortunately the RTA won't allow it, not to mention with a water-air intercooler manifold it would stick out the bonnet about 30cm!

According to the RTA guidelines for light vehicle modifications the biggest N/A engine that can go in this car is a 2.76L and the biggest F/I engine is a 2.3L, so it's a no go. However, there is a factory supercharged 2.3L K series engine which would bolt straight in place of the KL...

Anyway, I've measured up the engine mounts and taken the engine back out again. Next time it goes in it should have the starter motor, sump, intake and exhaust manifolds, and front pulley installed.

never seen your pics but it just looks like a good spot for a charger.

you could run a rotrex. that way you could have an air to air intercooler (sans the illegal bit)

either way i am sure you will have fun with this swap.
