Summernats Sunday classic car display

Postby Guran » Sat Dec 17, 2011 5:19 pm

I'm not exactly sure if this would be of any interest to MX-5 enthusiasts ... but you never know?!

The council of ACT Motor clubs organise a classic car display on the Sunday of the Summernats. We put an invite out to local and regional clubs to participate, so if you have any members who want to participate they just need to send me an email.
If you bring a classic car the driver and anybody else who fit legally in the car get free entry to the Sunday.
Details:
• Meeting at Dickson College car park between 8.00 am and 8.45 am 8th January 2012
• Arm bands and window stickers will be provided.
• Travelling to EPIC, entrance is via gate 7 which is on old Wells station road (about 100 metres north of the old Shell service station)
• Display will be as per previous years on the main arena.
WHAT you need to do:
• Clubs - send me an email with the numbers of cars and participants
• Individuals – send me an email, advising what vehicle you will be bringing.
• Can you all help spread the word about the event either by forwarding this email or posting on your web forums.

Yep, I am going. We usually get a few MX5s there. Russell had the SE rally car there last year.

You get free entry for Sunday and get to park the car in the centre of the arena on grass on public display, so is a convenient way to get in.

There is some public interest in the cars - and some rude comments about getting a real car (they obviously haven't been out to any track days). There is usually a good turnout of interesting cars in the display.

As well as the summernats cars - some amazing engineering if people are interested in that style of thing - there are lots of good trade stalls with all sorts of performance/motorsport/audio gear on display/sale.

A few years ago Barry Faux won the overall drivers award in his MX5 with the lexus V8 that he ran at a few track days.

Might be tempting. Any idea how much notice we need to give just for one car? (Let them know a week in advance? Two weeks?)

The convoy is back - hope everyone treats it well. Wonder if they will setup an inspection at the NRMA building on the way through.

The Summernats 3M Citycruise will take to Northbourne Ave at midday on Thursday January 5th 2012 to launch the 25th birthday of the iconic Street Machine Summernats, proudly supported by Rare Spares.

In a street parade of the likes not seen before in Canberra, a convoy of 200 of Australia’s best street machines will parade along Northbourne Avenue.

The Citycruise convoy will make its way from Exhibition Park along Northbourne Avenue to London Circuit, before turning back up along Northbourne to return to the festival venue.

“Myself and the other owners have been talking about doing this since the moment we bought the Nats,” said Summernats co-owner Andy Lopez. “It’s a great celebration of the Summernats in the ACT, and it’s cool that our convoy is going to drive past the hotels, restaurants, and retailers to whom the Summernats bring so much business.
