Firstly, a soft toad will cause less damage than a hard rock.
Secondly, the AC condenser resides before the radiator.

That's the real reason I wanted 225/45/15 tyres - more "Squishing Power"
Just beware that grilles, no matter how well designed, impact negatively on air flow which is not a good thing - on an SE, you need all the cooling you can get.
I originally installed a Lockwood mesh grille to protect my Cooling Pro intercooler but had to remove it when I fitted my Ryokurob tow hooks and didn't want to cut up the grille. If my intercooler gets beat up, I'll just buy a new one, they're not that expensive.
