Replaced mounts, all good.
Almost finished tune, its perfectly behaved 99.7% of the time.

Got my new 52mm ASI radiator, it looks like what id suspect of a 175 buck chinese ebay radiator. It will do the job just fine. Its pretty bloody huge though.

How long does it take you to get the engine out now? 20mins?

Put your engine in, take your engine out.
Put your engine in and shake it all about!

On my own, I can do it in an hour. Its like 45mins with a tool bitch :)
I did an engine out/in; in it for the first time, when I bought this engine. I didnt have jackstands or anything but I did it alone in my backyard in an afternoon. Including fitting up the 6 speed and ecu/wiring.

Engine out is...

Coils off, 3 nuts
Exhaust manifold flange from exhaust off, 2 bolts
Intake pipe off, 1 bolt
Radiator hoses off, 2 screws
Radiator out, 2 bolts
Front of powerplant frame undone, 2 bolts
Engine mounts, 2 nuts
Fuel lines, 2 clamps
Injector, TPS and AIT harness off, cut 3 zipties and 6 clips.
Unclip reverse switch.

Lift it out.

So you are pulling the gearbox as well?
Curious as I am about to remove my motor?

Dweezle,
Driveshaft slides out of the box as you remove the engine with the crane. I remembered it. I didnt add that I have a tailshaft end to put in the box to stop the oil leaking.

DaveWA. 100% absolutely remove both as a unit. No question at all. Its a running joke on MiataTurbo.net whenever anyone removes the box or engine alone.

What I listed is everything for my car. Your car might have a few extra vacuum lines for emissions, and also will need the centre console removed to get the gearstick through the floor pan.

Hey mate.

When you did the COP mod, did you end up using a capacitor betwen ground and +12V to reduce the voltage drop caused by the MX5 harness?

I want to do the mod right to get the most out of it, so was thinking I'll add the capacitor as well as building a dwell reducer board. Unless I get a MegaSquirt sometime soon.

Are your COPs going OK with the 4ms dwell?

Dan, if all you wanted was to change the clutch, would you remove engine and box to do it? Therefore giving the chance to inspect, clean and check lots of other things (end seals for example).

Cops:

My set has no capacitor, nor does any set Ive made personally. A set I helped with has the capacitor, it didnt seem to help.

As for the dwell reducter board, I am running 4ms and its just fine, however the stock dwell which I believe is 4.5 is no good. It causes missfires.

Dweezle, Yep definately pull both engine and box as one unit, its much much easier.

Quick update.

The car just used a set of rear tyres in 4500km...

Its also felt attrocious lately.

Knew something slipped in the wheel alignment area. Got underneath, and all of the adjustment bolts were in silly places and were pretty easy to move with a spanner.

So I went to bunnings and got some stuff to do my own alignment.

You need:

One metal ruler -$3
One level, about 3 feet long is fine -$19
A roll of linemarking string -$6
Some scrap timber 5cmx2cmx1cm -free
And a dead flat hard surface -garage floor

Ill post photos how to do it, but so long as you want to run max castor, like all of us do, everyone can perform a full alignment at home with basic spanners a jack and 2 stands.

Wouldnt have believed how easy it is till I sat and figured how to do it.

Ill post a how to soon.
