Where to buy a harness and what type do I want?

Postby Jeo » Sat Dec 10, 2011 2:01 am

So I've decided I need myself a harness for my track outings. I've got an MX5+ roll bar with seats on the way.

Research has led me to believe that it's probably worth shelling out the extra for a 6 point but I've heard conflicting reports about wanting a single seater style harness vs saloon style. Which variant do we want?

Where's a good place to buy from? Even buying a pair from the US/UK is working about the same price as just going through Rev Racegear. Anyone got any brilliant suppliers they're hiding away?

I got mine from here, Wesco full custom options including 6pt and anything else you could possibly think of.
I went for 3" all round with double 2" substraps, twist release on the lap sash and bolt on ends. Some interesting colour choices too!

Ended up at a reasonable price including quick shipping.

Yeah also happy with GP Cars Brisbane.

Or Demon Tweaks in the UK are very good and have an excellent range, if GP Cars don't have what you want.

I got my Willans harness from Revolution Racegear, they were quite helpful.

Monza 6 point FIA 3" clip-in harness from Super One Auto (through ebay).

Make sure you get the centre quick release buckle set-up for a 6 point, not the old style 4 point with seat belt style centre clip which doesn't distribute load effectively.

I use lap-sash on street and clip-in harness for track events - definitely makes a difference as I discovered when I forgot the shoulder straps last track day and had to use the lap-sash.

I have two eyebolts mounted on the Brown-Davis bar, two in the standard seat belt holes (needed longer eyebolts) and two in the floor for crutch strap. I got the longer eyebolts from Mania and mounting plates for crutch strap from Revolution.
