Thanks for that , nick 3 has skunks for sale weighing in at 440grams but at $90 bucks a pop , whilst not wishing to appear cheeeeep, leave me a little orf, even if they're the ducks nuts.

Now I know what I'm looking for fleebay may be my friend :lol:

By the time I get to next Thursday fixings on this this little number will have cost me $2800.00 in three weeks--its starting to sting a tad :cry: snif snif :lol:

Well the end of this saga for me , clutch was done yesterday and after 20 years the poor ole clutch was retired , still had plenty on it but it had wear marks on a one third area side , as though it had not been set square with the mating surface , I didn't notice whether it was the flywheel or pressure plate side dammit , academic anyway I suppose.

My gears now change fine.

I'm going to drop some MT90 in next week and then they will be 'super fine' :lol:

And a 3 ton gear knob :twisted:

Basho san, Is there a reason you choose MT90 over MTL?
Both seem to have their proponents....

Honorable Silvia, I'm going to use MT90 as it is a hotter weather grade 75W/90 (I live in Surfers) and the gearbox has 80000klms on it , if I lived in Melbourne I would probably use MTL which is an 70W/80-85 given the same gearbox.

Even Redline US & Australia have provided differing advice ref MT90 or MTL:

Indeed, in the following Redline discriminate between MT90 or MTL in 5 or 6 speed MX5 GB:

So, given you're in QLD Aust (so hotter climate) & you feel your MX5 NB8C (so 6 speed GB) gear changes could be better, it's probably a fairly fine line between MTL & MT90 for you. But give the MTL a go, as the only downside seems to be manga's comment that it sounded a bit thin in his NA8 5 speed GB.

In order to be sure I was on the right track I contacted Harold at performancelube and here is his response-

" I'd more incline to go Redline MTL, or superlight shockproof. Price are
all the same at $25/qrt. You need 2+l so 3 qrts."

Oh and mine is a 1992 NA6 5 speed , I'm going to call him tomorrow as I want to ask about Amsoil MTG 75-90.

I'm a bit buggy about the 75W90 as thats whats specified for the temp range here.

I understand that 2 quart bottles are sufficient and just over the required amount...

I changed my gearbox a couple of weeks ago (5speed) and wih a side jack on I squashed in 1.8 litres exactly .

I suspect different models have differing GB capacities, but none holds more than 2 litres,(I think) so why 3 quarts was suggested is mysterious.....unless the diff. was included - doesn't the diff. take a quart?

Diff 0.6 litre GL5 80/90 I use this, http://www.tds.castrol.com.au/pdf/6029_LSX.pdf changed mine 3 weeks ago.

Harold sells oil and gives 'free' advice- ah hem :lol:
