Suplimentary CD ???

Postby Basho » Fri Dec 02, 2011 7:27 am

I've read that Mazda produces a supplimentary plug in CD unit for the NA tha fits under the 2.5 din head unit (or whatever size it is) has anyone got any information about or even seen one of these ?

I haven't checked Mazda yet, the last time I wanted a replacement head unit from good ole maza it was for an import FC3C Rx7 , they wanted $6800.00 .

See why I havn't checked good ole maza ? :lol:

I'm not 100% sure on the NA but for the NB, there were 2 head units that accepted CDs:

1) A single din that took in a single CD at a time;
2) A single din that's linked to a 6 CDs stacker in the boot;

Note that both designs had their flaws and the the CD stacker skipped like a broken record if you're not on German roads...

I understand that many people would like to keep the OEM look but sound systems have improved 10 fold since the 90s.

Perhaps you can look for a head unit that looks like an OEM product and install that instead? You can get one easily for $250 with some tuning functions built in (yes, tuning makes a big difference).

Good luck in finding one. I've tried for years to find one second hand to no avail. They're as rare as an upside down bi-plane stamp. They weren't widely available in Australia (unlike in the US where they were offered as an option). In OZ, we only really saw then fitted as standard to limited edition models like the BRG edition etc.

You can find these head unit for sale off eBay around $200-$500.

As Hammer says, pretty scarce, but think there was one on ebay earlier this year or late last - probably the only one I've seen on there.

Close relation to the 'Penny Black' , but I personally prefer the 'Inverted Jenny' myself. :mrgreen:
