A quick how-to for those of you with NA's that don't do the Mx5 wave when you pull back on headlight stalk.
Credit goes to the Miata.net guide (link below) that gave me most of info. Images below just help to make things alittle clearer.

(General housekeeping - This mod is to the best of my knowledge safe, but please perform at your own risk!)
The Diode i used was purchased from JayCar electronics. I simply asked for a 3amp Diode at 1kv. Cost me 30cents!
This first pic shows the ignition barrel and steering column. Access to this is made possible by removing the steering column cover. 4 screws.
The plug in question can be seen above the ignition barrel in white.
Pic of the disconnected plug where the diode will be placed to perform the short.
Diode inserted. Locate Red/White and Black/White wires and insert the Diode as shown
NOTE: The stripped side of the diode must be on the side the feeds into the Black/White wire <---------------------
Ive used electrical tape to ensure the diode stays in place.
Plug reinstalled.
Be sure to test before reassembling the steering cover.
Enjoy!

My lights stay up far too long to be considered a "flash"

There is a more complicated version that allows adjustment of 'flash' time.
Its easier to just use the centre console I reckon.

The lights will go up and stay up only for as long as you hold the stalk back
The moment you release the stalk it'll head back down so there isn't a timing or delay issue
The way it should be ;)

94 and onwards had it but earlier models like mine don't. Hence the mod.

Mine's a 92 model and does NOT have this feature. When I flash the high beams, the lights come on but they do not flip up. Mark, maybe a former owner of your Malibu did the diode mod already?

My '93 NA6 has this already but they stay up for a good 2 seconds after you finish flashing the lights.

My '89 NA does this. Perhaps the previous owner did this mod? I certainly didn't, I figured it was how it worked stock.
