Fault code scanner NA6

Postby Basho » Sun Nov 20, 2011 8:41 am

I know a fault code scanner exists for the NA6, there's a port underbonnet and the dealers have them.

I've searched Ebay and done a quick GOOGLE and can't turn anything up.

Does anyone know where I can get a scanner for an NA6 from and what the protocol is ?

Off the top of my head, theres nothing that the diagnostics box in the engine bay (the plug you refer to) could tell a scanner that it couldnt tell a multimeter.

The o2 sensor oscilates between 0 and 1v rapidly, just put the positive on the wire, earth the negative and start the car, dont forget it has to be hot to work.

Thanks for that , a multimeter is fine but incredibly time consuming , particularly if you're not to adept at using one and dont have a reference as to values and methodology for each sensor , niether of which I have/am.

Using a multi also also presupposes that you have a fair Idea of whats wrong in the first place, an assumtion that has lead to more wrong sensor replacements and time wasted than dogs whiskers.

Using a multi is also problematic if you want to scan everything available from the ECU.

I am waiting for a Grainger/Shoemark workshop manual which I anticipate will be most helpfull and I am hoping that it will enable me to stay out of trouble.

I'll do some more searching and post if I get an Eurica event.

You make the fault code readers yourself for an NA6 from about $3 of JayCar parts.

Just made one. cost me nothing as i used stuff from work. Just used it and it gave me no errors. Just a flashing flashing red light about 20 of them NO solids :P So it seems my O2 sensor and so forth are fine :D.

USDM NA6 & NA8 had the Check Engine Light (CEL) built into the dash, but our NA6 & some others didn't.

I've got a light in the rocker switch cluster on the lower rightside of the steering wheel next to the cluster dimmer that runs out of the OE loom I wonder---? naah. haven't seen it do jack and I had a rooted ECT and O2 sensor --another of lifes unsolved mysteries I guess.
