How much will it cost to get my clutch replaced in my NC?

Postby Mazda Mandi » Mon Nov 21, 2011 9:31 am

Hi there,

The clutch seems to be going on my NC. I was wondering if anyone here could give me an indication of what it will cost to replace it.

The car makes a griding noise each time you push to clutch pedal in to change gear. It is getting louder each time I drive the vehicle.

Thanks

$700 +/- $100 depending on whom installs it.

Is it a gear grinding noise? It could be the clutch hydraulics failing and not fully disengaging the clutch and thus grinding the gears.

Not sure on a NC but on NAs and NBs its about a 4-5 hour job, depending on who installs it. Times that by the $75 hourly rate of a mech and you're looking at 300 - 375 plus parts.

Exedy clutch repair kit that includes the clutch plate, pressure plate and thrust bearing is $495, labour around $300 -350, but this doesn't sound like you need a new clutch, more like you either need to have the clutch line bled or you need to adjust the position the clutch "takes up". This is done by adjusting the nut where the pedal connects to the master cylinder rod under the dash. From your description the clutch isn't disengaging enough to allow a smooth change.

I've just replaces my clutch at 128,000 kilometres when I did some gearbox repairs and there was still another 40,000 left in it.

MM go to a few clutch places and get it diagnosed- you may be losing fluid and then the clutch will not disengage fully. If you check the clutch fluid reservoir iand the level is down it is a pointer to fluid loss. The estimates are about right but again do a few business checks and you will see the going price.

Clutch and brakes use the same reservoir on the NC so check the level ASAP or you might have brake failure as well  .
