Just use Redline shockproof 90, it wont help or change anything, then get on the forums and tell everyone its great and start yet another oil thread. Thats what the cool kids do :)

OK, so you don't know , so don't bother posting , FYI redline shockproof does not suit every gearbox and niether do hypoid oils suit all box/syncros , I've seen a few posts with stiff gearshift issues--typical sympton of a hypoid oil being used in a wrong application.

Mate I put Redline MT-90 in my NA8 5 speed and it is amazing stuff. I used Royal Purple prior to that and it sucked. Took it out, it's good for nothing. Wasted 100 odd dollars. MT-90 is worth it.

Thats terrific , I'm sure it does the trick, whether it's good for your syncros/rings/gears longer term I wouldn't know, I know that lightwieght shockproof isn't a friend of brass , anyhoo all I'm realy interested in is what I posted.

Thanks for that , I have actualy answered my own question--quite by accident, I just dropped my gearbox oil, I'm guessing that this has been the first time it's been out since new 20 years ago and its a hypoid , in remarkably good condition considering , it'd gone as thick as boots though.

I've opted to use the Castrol VMX M which is a 75-85 it's a GL4 made for Mitsubishi origionaly. I know it's good product, although it may be a little light for this application in a Qld summer I'll check with Castrol on Mon.

My main concern having caught myself out once before in an R34GT-t was using a Hypoid in an non hypoid application ah hem-- it was like pouring quick set into the box.

The workshop manual says this:
API service gl-4 or gl-5
All season: SAE 75W-90
Above 10 deg C: SAE 80W-90

As NA6 is an older car, I'd go with GL-4, but then there are oils available that are both gl-4 and gl-5 compatible.
