NA6 vs NA8 ecu pinouts
Hi,
I am trying to compare the NA6 ecu pinouts to an NA8 ecu.
Why? I have recently picked up an NA8 engine with Haltec E6X ECU. I'll be swapping this into my NA6 and wish to reuse the NA6 loom in combination with the NA8 engine and E6X ECU. The Haltec is connected to the NA8 loom via a patch loom and i am sure i'll have to change the location of the some of the inputs via the patch loom.
I have been looking at the 1994 wiring diagram from http://www.madracki.com/miata/images/wiring/94sys.pdf pgs 8 & 9
and the NA6 pinouts from http://www.miata.net/garage/ECU%20Pin-Out%2090-93%20MT.pdf
The issue i have ran into is that the 1994 (NA8) wiring diagram has a bunch of EGR connections/wires, but im pretty damn sure most of the early NA8's I have seen do not have EGR.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Shane

Re: NA6 vs NA8 ecu pinouts
Its not important really, the e6x cannot control egr so it wont be wired for it.
While im at it, my AE86 has an e6x, and unless the tune on the e6x is so freaking awesome its not funny, get rid of it, its horrible. Its worse than a 13b on a microtech.

Re: NA6 vs NA8 ecu pinouts
Can you explain that dann? The tech sheet didn't look too bad when I had a quick look, but you've used it so....pretty interested to hear it.
Is it poor resolution on the map table? Do they just chew fuel or is there other issues?

Thanks magna! I'm assuming the I and O and I/O is input and out put? Does the G stand for ground?
Dann, the tune seems to be pretty good so hopefully it is not a huge issue! Keen to hear what you have to say about the ecu though.

Re: NA6 vs NA8 ecu pinouts
I had to run DOSbox, and muck around heaps to emulate an extremely old version of MSDOS just to run it.
Its very basic, extremely steppy in nature, doesnt accept any o2 sensors for closed loop fuel control. Its like a really bad piggyback, but you can remove the factory ecu.
No datalogging at all. Very poor menu, dos so you cannot use a mouse, you have to memorise all the commands to jump from say,2500rpm ignition to 4500rpm fuel. Basic cold start running. Really horribly slow refresh rate.
What else makes it horrible.... Anyways, I have to use a pentium 1 desktop just to get it to connect most of the time: Obviously to road tune you would need a VERY long extension cord.

Re: NA6 vs NA8 ecu pinouts
If the tune is great, and you can live with economy like mine (about 6km/L whether in granny mode of racetrack mode) then leave it. Otherwise, get a MS3.

Re: NA6 vs NA8 ecu pinouts
How does it so closed loop fuel if it doesn't accept o2 readings?

There is no tables. Its not set out like that. You need to key commands to get to the next screen to see another rpm.
If it does have closed loop, its narrow band only.

eww, ok, sounds a bit lame. Just have to see how Plohl's fuel economy and time goes

Re: NA6 vs NA8 ecu pinouts
It runs on DOS for crying out loud. MSDOS, that is NO exaggeration.
Remember MSDOS? No one else either.
Its a race engine setup right? On the track fuel economy is about the same whether you have a great economic tune or not, cos at 7000rpm flat stick you just run 11.8:1. But on the street with a really basic steppy setup you HAVE to run it too rich, and timing conservative to keep the engine drivable and in one peice. At least a carbie is a constantly variable fuel metering device, as is a distributer with vacuum advance. An E6x isnt.

Re: NA6 vs NA8 ecu pinouts
Haha yah dann I'm old enough to remember dos, my first computer booted DOS, then windows. I'd you wanted to run a game you ran it from DOS cause windows sucked too much memory from a computer that was backed up on floppy!
Car will be maybe 95% daily, so I think the fuel economy might come into play.
Haha yup old stuff was continually variable as the point gap wore down!

Re: NA6 vs NA8 ecu pinouts
Throttle pump varied the faster you pumped, the fuel delivery constantly varied with venturi speed and vacuum (throttlke position).
Mechanical advance through changing RPM, vacuum advance through load. Constamtly varying.
Those were the days (I kid, come on im 21)
