Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
Just make sure you take a ride in someone's NA with the Mania intake fitted before drilling into your own car.
It is really loud and often causes all sorts of buzzing and rattling along with its drone.

Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
My only advice at this point is to look into the Mania CAI before touching the exhaust.
Yeah, that is my plan hopefully very soon!

really? because i took a ride in luist's NA, it was an automatic though, and i didn't find it very loud at all,
but is it different on manual transmission?

Loud is subjective, the noise is coming from the firewall i.e. right next to the driver, as opposed to out the back end.
Exhaust sounds moderately loud to you, but people within 100m can hear it. Induction sounds loud to you, but only people within 30m will hear it. Or so is my experience.
Buzzing or rattling from a CAI suggests it wasn't done properly (firewall intake install).
Can't speak to CAI droning either. Be sure you aren't confusing exhaust drone. A properly set up CAI is deep, throaty and punchy. There is no lingering drone.

Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
I've only been in 3 mx5s with 2 having manias and 1 have a loch Stewart.
I found all 3 to be harsh.
Ajay at mx5mania upon me asking about them early on, took me for a drive with one to make sure i was up for the noise.
I never had one installed ;)
But hey, different strokes for different folks.
You won't be any quicker for it on the street. It would solely be for the noise.
I am under the assumption you enjoy your music.
It being a hard to go back on mod, with the drilling of the firewall and all, is the reason i brought up to really make sure you want it.

Its true! a friend has one in his car, sounds great when its at WOT but it buzzes and drones! from what iv seen you look pretty capable of making your own enclosed intake, why not give it a go?
I dont care that my laces aren't fat or that I'm not even close to flush and I certainly don't want to be the illest!

It's said to add 5-10hp. It can be loud, but i've found that to be highly throttle dependent.
When cruising you don't even know it's there, but you can cure the rest with good speakers (mb quart or focals imo) and a small amp easily enough.

This is very true, and from the looks of things Emily would need to relocate her washer bottle too? Might be it's not worth it.
Emily, not sure what you're looking at for exhausts, but imo you won't much better the OEM note than a Sebring.

Ahhhh. so. many. options. hahaa
This is basically what I want.
Thats ok, not really interested in power (at the moment anyway )
DIY FTW haha maybe, I'm in the middle of some diy retro window switches atm, so maybe after that.
Oh yes. y'all just wait till next week, who says you can't fit 10 speakers in the cabin...
regardless of this, Nopro bottle is on its way
haha ok? what is on yours?

Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
Standard with an exhaust tip, car sounds responsive doesn't drone and won't effect fuel consumption or your firewall.
Or next max brennar(?) or so meet we can show you more exhaust and intake options in person rather than debating it all in your build thread! Just an idea

Re: Emily's NA6 V-Special Roadster
I have a cowl style intake. Washer bottler relocation is easy as there is already a hole on the shock tower that it can bolt to nicely.
My intake noise is completely silent at cruise, sounds great a moderate acceleration, and at ful noise you cannot scream over it. Mind you, its much larger than a mania ike, has the helmholtz resonator removed, and I have cams etc.
