Re: The carbon fibre time attack/superlap MX5 NB twins blog
It looks like it will be getting done sooner now that i don't have the silver nb8b to use - i broke it at sandown. And i will be spending a lot more time trying to make some money to pay for my mistake, and to get the c.f car finished.

I think you should sell it whole/parts then focus on finishing your project before it starts to get your mood down and you need to be re-motivated! If you need more cash their seems to be a influx of people wishing to obtain carbon fibre roofs

Re: The carbon fibre time attack/superlap MX5 NB twins blog
I went out on the first session of the morning at sandown. On the outlap a guy came off and hit the wall pretty bad and did some damage to his back. So the first flying lap of mine was only to the back straight. So after about half an hour of waiting we got the green light to go again. I went out and on the first flying lap over the hill the car got a bit loose in the rear even tho i wasn't going flat out. I thought nothing of it and it came back, then all of a sudden the rear just went back out again and wasn't going to stop this time. So i had op lock on as it was going off to the infield. Managed to turn the car back facing the right kind of direction and then realised ther was no way of stoping a car on wet grass doing about 160km/h. It jumped over the bitumen driveway that i was hoping would help me slow down. And hit a tyre wall that luckily wasn't an anchored structure. the tyre wall is pretty big and i pushed it about 10m form it's spot. I have full data and video of the incident, and when i see brendan next i will get him to overlay it before i put it up on youtube. Doubt i will ever run fast on a first lap ever again, because it was exactly the same thing that happened to my turbo car. So don't go too fast till you get some heat in your tyres.
Before;
After;
On i brighter note i did get a little done on the racecar.

Gentlemen we can rebuild IT.
I should have sent you down the vented section from my mould . I think it blends in better than your one it curves more but yours should still work fine.

Sad news and a dramatic photo Dave, hope you're not too shaken up.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Ouch! Glad to hear you're ok Dave. There is remarkably little damage considering the speed you were doing. Those tyre barriers are a blessing!

Re: The carbon fibre time attack/superlap MX5 NB twins blog
Sorry to see, I remember the same thing happening last year to Jason Wright in his crazy WRX at Eastern Creek. That carbon roof doesn't look like it's fitting square anymore, so has the A-pillar moved back or are one of the rear mount points squeezing it? Hopefully the rails are still in good shape but even then people have cut and welded new front ends on. E.g Boyracers old green machine was an NB front end put on a NA shell. So I hope it's still usable as a car when you get time for it.

Re: The carbon fibre time attack/superlap MX5 NB twins blog
Finally started making the doors. I will try and make the other one tonight. Then do the inside halves.
I think it needs a new shell. I might hold onto it and transfer everything - (inside and driveline) to an NA6 when i get the time.
