More on NA8 Tappet noise

Postby geoffblick » Thu Nov 03, 2011 10:14 am

My NA8 has done 240,250. 5 months ago I changed oil & filter to Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 & have done 2,750 k's since. It has recently had noisy tappets at start up. I gather that this is a common problem & at the risk of asking the same question I must. If I replace the filter & go to 10W-30 will this help? Will a synthetic oil make any difference?
Are there any other suggestions? Regards Geoff.....

If it goes away after a few minutes (and doesn't return), when the engine gets warm, then it's ok.

^+1: worth a try - also if you're only using the car fairly occasionally then noisy HLAs at startup isn't uncommon even on low km engines.
